Kinetic Game's co-op ghost hunting survival horror game Phasmophobia has enjoyed tremendous success, and very quickly after being released as well. Much of its popularity possibly stems from the global pandemic, which has seen more people playing online co-operative horror games than ever before. With the Phasmophobia renowned for its roster of spooky apparitions, the developer has recently unveiled an update which comes with new spectral antagonists, as well as a host of bug fixes, and some new equipment as well.

Posting to its Steam and Twitter page recently, the Phasmophobia update, which is called "Exposition," now contains two new ghosts to scare the pants off players, the Goryo, often spelled as Goryō, and Myling. While the former is of Japanese descent, and is said to be a vengeful ghost, the latter comes from Scandinavian folklore, and is often manifested when a child is unwanted, traditionally taunting the mother. On top of the new spooks, Kinetic Games has also made adjustments to the rest of the antagonists, in terms of evidence, to accommodate for the newbies.

Phasmophobia also features a selection of ghost-hunting equipment, such as the infrared light sensor, the head-mounted camera which is affixed to all players, and the motion sensor. The "Exposition" update adds a new piece of gear into the mix, the DOTS Projector. This is a device which emits a series of lasers. When in use, players will be able to see any ghosts move through it as they disturb all the tiny laser dots. One of its most notable features is it bathes the room it's placed in in a bright green glow.

There are some additional changes in the Phasmophobia update as well, such as replacing some sounds with new ones, the text of the spirit box being replaced by icons, plus an improvement to the lighting, and many other things. As with all patches, this one comes with bug fixes too. One notable fix is when the game would crash on the Asylum map, and the issue where ghost animations would only be visible for players who were hosting.

Given the popularity of the game, it's hardly surprising that Kinetic Games recently put a call-out for more staff. With its emphasis on detective work to determine what the ghost is, while at the same time avoiding its wrath, Phasmophobia has been a fantastic addition to the horror genre, helped in part by its unique gameplay experience which has seen its stock rise on streaming and YouTube channels.

Phasmophobia is available on PC as both a VR and non-VR game.
