In a surprising announcement from 2K Games, PGA Tour 2K21 has been officially revealed. The new golf game was teased via a quick trailer, showcasing an iconic golf hole and PGA tour players.

Many golf fans have been itching for a golf simulator. EA's Rory McIlroy PGA Tour replaced Tiger Woods in 2015, after decades of PGA Tiger Woods games, but no EA PGA Tour game has been released since.

The Golf Club and The Golf Club 2 are both highly detailed sims and stepped into the void left by EA over the past few years, and now it looks like 2K is taking that next step. PGA Tour 2k21 is being developed by the same team that worked on The Golf Club, as 2K has partnered with them for this title.

The big news with this reveal is in the name itself, PGA Tour. As much as many golf enthusiasts have loved The Golf Club, the original didn't come with that PGA backing. PGA Tour 2K21 looks to be a title that will have PGA tour courses and professional PGA tour golfers. With the development team of The Golf Club behind this new game, the publishing power of 2K, and the official licensing of PGA, this golf game could easily be one of the best sports sims in recent memory. Fans will most likely find out more about PGA Tour 2k21 on Thursday, May 14.

It will be interesting to follow the success of this new franchise, as the name PGA Tour 2K21 implies that 2K Games has aspirations of continuing this series with yearly iterations. There are many things that 2K has done better than EA Sports with previous games, such as the fan-favorite ESPN 2K football series and NBA 2k. And now that EA has stopped making their own golf games, 2K might overtake the gigantic publisher in another sports series.

PGA Tour 2K21 is in development.
