The Miz, 2010 WWE Champion, wants to take on PGA Tour 2K21 cover star Justin Thomas. In an interview with Game Rant, Miz explained how he could beat Justin Thomas in a round of golf, but Justin Thomas doesn't think so.
2K Sports and The Miz have joined forces to promote PGA TOUR 2K21, as The Miz, who playable character in WWE 2K Battlegrounds, has always been a massive golfing fan. He was thrilled to be able to talk about PGA TOUR 2K21, but just as interested in working with cover athlete Justin Thomas.
Justin Thomas just came off his thirteenth PGA Tour win, but that doesn't mean The Miz, an accomplished athlete of his own, doesn't think he could take him in a round of golf. In working with Justin Thomas on promoting PGA TOUR 2K21, Miz told Justin that "if you gave me 30 strokes, there is no doubt in my mind I could beat you," and Justin's response was simply "no you can't."
The Miz doubled down on his challenge, asking the number one golfer in the world "Justin, you're telling me, 18 holes of golf, if you gave me 30 strokes, 30!, you could beat me?" And the icy golfer quickly told Miz that he would simply crush him. Justin Thomas is known as one of the nicer players on the PGA Tour, and The Miz agrees, saying Thomas is "the nicest guy in the world." Yet, as soon as a challenge was posed, his competitive fire came through and Miz says,
"That is why he is the number one golfer in the world. It wasn't cocky, it wasn't arrogance, it was a matter of fact."
Before the challenge from Miz was started, he actually asked Justin Thomas for swing advice over Zoom. Thomas took the time to watch Miz swing and gave him some helpful golf tips. Miz must have felt confident in his newly honed swing, because that's when he posed the challenge, where Thomas went from "nice guy" helping a fellow athlete with golf advice over a meeting to confident competitor in a heartbeat.
This isn't the first time The Miz has been a part of off the wall competitions against fellow athletes. Miz told Game Rant that he once played a hole of ambidextrous golf against Gronk, NFL superstar, during a Pro-Am. That's not where the fun ends, however, as Miz wants to eventually fight Gronk in the wrestling ring.
The Miz and Justin Thomas now have a friendly wager going, as Thomas told Miz that he is ready to play any time, anywhere. In the words of Miz, "2K, you need to set this up." Not only is Miz ready to take on Justin Thomas, but he is also telling 2K that it needs to put the competition together. The two could play a few rounds inside of PGA TOUR 2K21, thanks to the solid multiplayer features, but both would likely be more interested in a real round of golf.
In our chat, The Miz specifically asked us, "do you think I could beat the number one golfer in the world if you gave me 30 strokes?" Asking partially rhetorically, as soon as we responded that he should be the winner, given the fact that he's played the sport since he was a fifth-grader, Miz quickly agreed and said,
"Right? You would pick me. You would pick me! This isn't a full weekend, this is 18 holes of golf. 30 strokes."
Yet Miz claims that Thomas had all the confidence in the world, that he didn't hesitate or think about it, which demonstrates the confidence of the athlete..
