Last week, a Reddit user posted an image of a World War 2 memorial in Brooklyn, New York that was seemingly vandalized by PewDiePie fans. The vandals wrote "subscribe to PewDiePie" on the memorial, apparently as a way to promote the ongoing battle between the controversial YouTuber and the corporate-owned T-Series channel for the top spot on the site. Numerous outlets have covered the incident, and now PewDiePie has issued his own statement on the matter.

"It's disgusting," PewDiePie said in the most recent episode of "Pew News," a series where he discusses current events. "I don't think I've done anything to condone this sort of behavior," he continued. PewDiePie also pointed out how he has asked his fans not to do anything "illegal" while supporting him in his feud with T-Series, before adding, "I don't know why anyone got in their mind to do this. It's just stupid."

After condemning the defacing of the World War 2 memorial, PewDiePie goes on in the original version of the video to discuss a new development in the subscriber count war between his channel and T-Series. Apparently, there is a movement by some Pakistani individuals to unsubscribe from T-Series and subscribe to PewDiePie, due to T-Series removing music videos featuring Pakistani artists. T-Series made this decision after the Pulwama Terror Attack that occurred on February 14. India (where T-Series is based) has blamed Pakistan for the attack, though the country has denied involvement.

This has caused some backlash, prompting PewDiePie to take to Twitter to announce that he has edited out the last segment of the video.

PewDiePie seems to find himself in one controversy after the next. Since he is the most-subscribed YouTuber on the site and has even been named one of the most influential people in the world, this should come as no surprise. PewDiePie usually apologizes for these incidents and attempts to make amends through charity streams and the like, though some critics are calling for more accountability for the YouTube star considering his massive audience.

Regardless of his controversies, PewDiePie has millions of loyal fans for a reason. And as long as he is able to continue supporting his channel with content that his fans like and appealing to new fans with stunts like having Elon Musk host Meme Review, it's likely PewDiePie will stay the top channel on YouTube for the foreseeable future.
