As many may know, there has been an on-going subscription feud between the top two content creators on YouTube: PewDiePie (Felix Kjellberg) and T-series. On the surface, this appears just to be a simple competition between content creators, but many believe that this is a battle between an individual content creator and a corporate channel. This feud has recently seen PewDiePie hit an impressive subscriber milestone, but more than that, this on-going feud, sometimes referred to as the Great Subscriber War, has become the basis for a new video game.
Developed by Thomas Brush of Atmos Games, this is a 2D platformer that follows PewDiePie as he fights in what appears to be the year 2033 following the dubbed "Sub-Bot War of 2019." This post-apocalyptic action-adventure platformer is about PewDiePie's return to YouTube and is officially available now. This game, titled Zero Deaths, makes players collect "Monetization Coins" and defeat Sub-Bots, and it even features voice acting from Kjellberg himself.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Zero Deaths is that Brush created the PewDiePie and YouTube-related game himself in approximately 2 weeks. Furthermore, this game can be downloaded for free, though Brush is accepting donations, of which 50% goes to Games for Good (G4G). This is an non-profit organization that redistributes donations from game publishers and the like to various children's charities. In other words, playing Zero Deaths can help spread the PewDiePie love and donate money to a good cause.
Of course, the feud continues, and while PewDiePie is currently at the top, there is a massive fluctuation. About a week ago, T-Series topped PewDiePie, but this reign did not last long. This feud has had plenty of back-and-forth moments such as when YouTube cracked down on the inactive and bot subscribers, which resulted in PewDiePie losing over 40K subscribers and T-series losing more than 200K.
As the feud goes on, it will likely continue to be neck-and-neck for some time. After all, neither YouTube channel is likely to admit defeat and each have likely pulled out all the stops to bring in more subscribers. PewDiePie even mentioned this as a specific reason for when he had Elon Musk host Meme Review in a YouTube video.
Zero Deaths is can be downloaded now for macOS and Windows via itch.io.
