PewDiePie has been the most-subscribed YouTuber on the site for years now, but his place at the top is being threatened by Indian YouTube channel T-Series. The feud between PewDiePie and T-Series has inspired songs, Times Square advertisements, and even representation at the Super Bowl. But now T-Series is catching up, with PewDiePie sitting at 84.84 million subscribers at the time of writing versus T-Series' 84.83 million.

In an desperate attempt to keep the top spot, PewDiePie has been livestreaming games that he's often been critical of, like Fortnite, and now he's live-streaming Roblox. Roblox, for the uninitiated, is a LEGO-style MMO game that has a stunning 70 million registered users, making it one of the most popular video games in the world, though it seems to have a predominantly younger audience than most mainstream games.

PewDiePie's attempt to stream Roblox to beat T-Series has not been without its hiccups. Severe lag has kept the stream from running smoothly, perhaps due to the sheer volume of people trying to watch it. PewDiePie himself has taken the stream down on a couple of occasions to try to fix the issues, but so far it hasn't seemed to work.

If PewDiePie is unable to iron out the technical issues he's having while trying to stream Roblox, it's hard to say that he will be successful at using the game's popularity to boost his subscriber count and stay ahead of T-Series.

People have already gone to great lengths to keep PewDiePie ahead of T-Series, with a hacker going as far as to hack 50,000 computers and have them print a "subscribe to PewDiePie" message. And as previously mentioned, others have paid significant sums of money to put PewDiePie ads in Times Square. It's safe to say there are those who are seriously invested in this feud, and want to see PewDiePie come out on top.

PewDiePie, despite his controversies, is still YouTube's most popular star, and is synonymous with the video hosting platform. And despite the fact that he is the most-subscribed YouTuber, he also has the benefit of an "underdog" story going for him, as there is the perceived notion that the "establishment" is out to get him. Fans point to situations like his videos not appearing as high on the "trending" tab as lesser-viewed videos and his absence from YouTube Rewind as evidence of this.

Whether or not the odds are stacked against PewDiePie, it will be interesting to see if he can get the stream under control and keep his YouTube channel ahead of T-Series.
