Popular YouTube star MrBeast is being called on by other mega-popular YouTuber and streamer PewDiePie to fulfill a promise that he made a long time ago. The vast majority of people who spend even a moderate amount of time on YouTube are familiar with the two content creators, as the two hold the highest subscriber counts of any individual on the platform. With MrBeast's main channel recently reaching a new milestone, PewDiePie wants him to erase it all.

24-year-old MrBeast - whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson - is one of the most well-known social media stars on the planet. Known for extravagant, expensive stunts and challenges, the main MrBeast channel surpassed 100 million subscribers in late summer, where he uploaded a secret video only available to those who purchased a specific piece of merchandise. MrBeast has recently set a second subscriber record, one that seems to have prompted PewDiePie to make good on a promise he made in regard to the first.

The milestone is of course MrBeast surpassing PewDiePie's subscriber count. In mid-November MrBeast became the most popular YouTube channel of any individual, garnering an astounding 111 million at the time, which has grown even further to 118 million. In a video titled “MrBeast passed me in subs,” PewDiePie congratulates his colleague for dethroning him as the most popular individual YouTuber. Though he discusses several books to assert a carefree attitude about the situation, PewDiePie pulls up a pair of old tweets from MrBeast at the end of the video, jokingly demanding that he delete his channel like his tweets said.

The tweets included one of MrBeast saying he'd delete his channel if he ever got close to PewDiePie's subscriber count, and that the second, “Make it interesting. Last to hit 100 Million subscribers has to delete their channel” of which PewDiePie hit first.

MrBeast surpassing PewDiePie seemed inevitable to a lot of fans, especially considering PewDiePie soft-quit YouTube two years ago. In 2020, the famous video game-centric content creator announced he would be quitting the platform due to the constant drama and scrutiny that came with being the literal top YouTuber in the world. PewDiePie ended up not so much "quitting" as he did downshift into a much more relaxed pace of content.

MrBeast's immense popularity is only growing further, with the content creator in the midst of a robust collaboration with Fortnite. In addition to the battle royale title crossing over with the virtual MrBeast Burger restaurants, the Fortnite x MrBeast collaboration is giving away $1,000,000. Players can participate in MrBeast’s Extreme Survival Challenge - a new Fortnite LTM - with the overall highest score taking home the entire amount of cash. It seems that MrBeast's reign on YouTube and beyond has only just begun.
