With the rise of cancel culture on the internet, YouTube star PewDiePie speaks out against the recent attacks aimed at fellow internet celeb Jenna Marbles.

Felix Kjellberg, better known as "PewDiePie" on the internet, has broken new ground on his channel for being the first independent YouTuber to hit over 100 million subscribers. He continues to adapt and change the content he creates on the platform to the times, even raising over $106k on YouTube for a charity stream for Black Lives Matter.

Kjellberg is no stranger to controversies himself, but now fellow YouTuber Jenna Marbles has found herself at the center of a controversy for things she did nine years ago. PewDiePie took to his own channel to speak out in her defense.

Jenna Marbles controversy

Jenna Marbles videos in the past have been accused of multiple offensive acts such as using blackface during a video she made lip-syncing Katy Perry with darker colored skin. And while Jenna defends this as just an unfortunately dark spray tan, she nonetheless apologizes for the harmful impact it has had on some of her viewers. PewDiePie responds to this with a lengthy text post for his subscribers saying, "these actions reflect in no way who she is and the content she makes today, anyone who watches her can see that."

PewDiePie continues by saying, "Some things were more lenient a few years ago - that's not to say it was right, but where the line is drawn from the past and today seems nonexistent." The argument is made that while PewDiePie doesn't condone what Jenna Marbles did in her past and agrees that it was wrong, she has a right to learn from her mistakes and grow as a person just like everyone else does.

Jenna Marbles has a massive following on social media and is one of the most popular YouTube stars, so it's no surprise that her past content is coming under scrutiny. However, there is plenty of proof that Jenna Marble's content and maturity has changed a lot since her controversial past videos. PewDiePie touches on this topic by saying that no one is perfect, but if we keep silencing the people who care, then we are only contributing to the problem. Felix than ends his statement by saying, "So disappointed with the internet and how far things have gotten."
