Popular YouTube content creator Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg has announced an exclusive partnership with blockchain-based livestreaming platform DLive. PewDiePie’s first steam on DLive will be Sunday, April 14th, at 10am PT.

As part of PewDiePie’s DLive streaming partnership, he will be kicking things off with a SupportCreators stream where he donates up to $50,000 to 100 different DLive streamers. Presumably, this will help bring more users to the DLive streaming platform, but whether they will stay beyond Sunday is yet to be seen.

PewDiePie has been a major player in the content creation space for over a decade now, but his streaming presence has been hit or miss. He has used YouTube’s streaming capabilities to stream games like PUBG and Roblox, oftentimes in an effort to boost his subscriber numbers, but he never seemed committed to a consistent schedule.

Of course, the question is how long PewDiePie’s streaming exclusivity contract with DLive lasts. As one of the most famous YouTubers on the planet, it’s hard to imagine him abandoning his regular video posts in the interim, but he will likely need to maintain a consistent schedule to bring people to DLive and help promote the streaming service.

While most gamers have heard of streaming services like Twitch, Mixer, and Facebook, DLive is throwing its hat into the ring with the promise of better contracts for its content creators. Where services like Twitch can take up to 50% of the revenue a content creator makes, DLive says that it does not to take any such cut. Right now, the focus for DLive is on the growth of its platform rather than monetization.

However, DLive is buit on the Lino Network, a blockchain-based currency system. Tips are called LINO Points and subscriptions appear to be made using the same currency. Not to mention, conversion from LINO Points to dollars (or any other currency) requires a conversion fee and a transaction fee, so nothing is totally free for the donator or the creator.

Thus far, PewDiePie’s fan base seems to have rallied behind his DLive account. The real stream doesn’t start until Sunday, but his promotional stream (just a countdown) typically has a few thousand viewers and has already earned about $25,000 in donations.
