While he was eventually overtaken by T-Series, PewDiePie was once the most-subscribed YouTube channel in the world, with a staggering 109 million subscribers at the time of this writing. PewDiePie and his fans fought hard to keep him in the top spot until T-Series succeeded in overtaking the YouTube celebrity, and now it's starting to look like another YouTube channel will be knocking PewDiePie down the list.
YouTube channel Cocomelon is currently at 105 million subscribers and counting. The channel produces 3D animated cartoons that are designed to be educational for children. Similarly to how he created a couple of diss tracks aimed at T-Series when that channel was overtaking his subscriber count, PewDiePie recently released a diss track that attacks Cocomelon. The song was an immediate hit with the YouTube audience, but the video hosting site ultimately decided to pull it down.
YouTube has since offered some clarification as to why it removed PewDiePie's Cocomelon song from the website. According to YouTube, the video violated two of its policies, including child safety and harassment. It pointed out how the video was made to look like it would be for children, but in actuality contained inappropriate content. As for harassment, YouTube has said that the PewDiePie Cocomelon video "crossed the line," even though it has allowed criticism and diss tracks "in some cases" in the past.
PewDiePie does not have a Twitter account and it doesn't seem as though he has released any statement about the Cocomelon video being removed at the time of this writing. PewDiePie has not uploaded a new YouTube video today at all, though he doesn't stick to the strict daily upload schedule that he used to, so it's hard to say if that's related to the video's removal. In any case, one has to imagine that PewDiePie will address the controversy at some point soon, so it will be interesting to see what he has to say.
Of course, this is far from the first time that PewDiePie has found himself involved in a controversy. Previously, PewDiePie ended his feud with T-Series early due to some fans taking things too far, like someone vandalizing a World War 2 memorial, for instance. He also caught some flak for jokes he made regarding the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
PewDiePie's massive subscriber count and near-unmatched following means that he is virtually untouchable though, and he has successfully bounced back from every controversy. And in this case, it doesn't seem many people are actually upset with PewDiePie; on the contrary, people seem to be upset with YouTube, with many fans re-uploading the pulled video. Whether or not PewDiePie himself will be able to bring the Cocomelon song back in some form remains to be seen, however.
