In the world of YouTube stardom, there is none bigger than Felix "PewDiePie" Kjellberg. When he became the first to reach 110 million subscribers on the Google-owned video site, it became apparent that, despite notable controversies that have plagued his career, the Swedish content creator's popularity does not seem to be waning. Given his enormous platform, he has been able to use his fame for good. Most recently, he went public about the amount he's managed to raise for numerous charities, and all within a relatively short span of time.
In a recent update on his YouTube community page, the YouTube star outlined exactly how much he has managed to donate over the past year. Between 2020 and 2021, PewDiePie has donated a grand total of $1.5 million, with the actual figure sitting pretty at $1,520,003. He even listed all eleven charities that the money has gone to over the past twelve months, with some well-known names, such as Make A Wish, and the UK's Comic Relief.
The amazing thing about this achievement is that he was able to do this all through membership revenue, which he pledged to donate. While controversy often follows in his wake, such as when Pewds had a diss track removed by YouTube for potentially inciting harassment, it doesn't seem to affect his generosity when it comes to giving to charity. A man of his notoriety has an opportunity to do some good in the world, and it seems that he chooses to do so. Many of his fans on his YouTube community page offered up their hearty congratulations to him, with more than 3,000 comments praising the work he and his media empire have done.
He's also not alone among YouTubers who often donate big to charities. Last December, Pewds and Jacksepticeye along with others raised $1.4 million for the Thankmas campaign, which last year was an Among Us charity stream hosted by Jack and enlisting the aid of his YouTube friends. Jack even promised to dye his hair green live on air if donations reached $500,000 which was achieved in just 2.5 hours.
While things like PewDiePie's Dream video controversy may mar his reputation to some extent, putting some people off his content due to the negative attention he seems to attract, his charitable work is still something to admire. He might be something of a YouTube "bad boy," but he knows that giving back enormously to the community is something that he is privileged to be able to do.
