Persona has risen to become one of the most popular JRPG franchises to have ever existed, especially with the smashingly successful fifth entry introducing the series to a whole new audience. Developer Atlus officially announced a follow up to one of their side entries, Persona Q, a few days ago, but has now released the first few details of the upcoming game.

The new game is Persona Q2: New Cinema, which features cast members from a variety of Persona games. So far, only a single TV spot has been released, though another new trailer will release on August 6th, and further details will be releasing on the 9th. The TV spot is entirely in Japanese with no English subtitles, so it's a bit hard to discern any solid details. The trailer does show a November 29th, 2018, release date, but it likely won't come to the US and other regions for at least a few months after that – that is, if history repeats itself.

For those unfamiliar with the previous Persona Q, the game is a dungeon-crawler following a time-warp that draws in cast members from throughout the series, with the characters featuring more of a chibi art style than the console versions. That said, though, it isn't quite as odd as Persona: Dancing All Night. Additionally, the game also features a first-person viewpoint, oddly enough.

The Persona franchise has one of the largest cult followings in all of the games industry, so it makes sense that Atlus would want to capitalize on that type of audience, especially given the largely-positive critical and fan response to the first Persona Q. It's also great that Atlus is willing to try new things with the property, which is something many other developers are often hesitant to do.

The timed Japanese exclusivity is a bit of a drag, especially due to the 3DS' region locking, which blocks the ability to play an imported version of the game early, as many eager fans did with Persona 5 on the PS4. The wait between the last entry's release dates was only a few months, which means US and European fans should be able to get their hands on the game sometime in early 2019. Atlus is planning to release a lot more information before the game launches, so at least fans will have content to tide them over until they can play.

Persona Q2: New Cinema will release on November 29, 2018, for the 3DS in Japan.
