Due to the ports of Persona 5 Royal across multiple platforms, Atlus' Persona franchise has crossed a brand-new impressive sales milestone. The Persona series has been a hit for Atlus in the past few years, with Persona 5 in particular cementing itself as a modern JRPG classic. This has resulted in the game not only getting spin-offs, an expanded re-release, and more recently, a multiplatform release of Persona 5 Royal after many vocal requests. While P5R was the first to be ported onto current platforms, previous entries Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are also set to launch next year as well. With Persona 5 Royal being such a success, it was reported on by its parent company Sega in a financial report of the previous year. The report covered everything that was released between March 2021 and ending with March 2022, so the multiplatform releases of P5R were not counted here. Regardless, this report covered a number of financial statistics about its IPs, including the Persona series. It also reveals that the series managed to cross a pretty impressive sales milestone ever since the series was conceived almost two and a half decades ago.RELATED: Persona and Shin Megami Tensei's Jack Frost Gets Metal Bright Arts FigureThe report reveals that at the end of March 2022, the total amount of worldwide Persona game sales has passed 15.5 million units. More importantly, the Persona 5 subseries of games have contributed to this big number. This includes the original game along with its various offshoots Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, Persona 5 Royal, and Persona 5 Strikers. The report notes that 7.22 million units of this subseries had been sold worldwide, which make up almost half of the total series sales. Not only that, approximately 77% if these sales were from gamers overseas.

Within this fiscal year, Persona 5 Strikers had managed to sell 1.3 million copies as of April 21 2021, with the Steam version of Persona 4 Golden selling over a million copies as well. The report also indicated other milestones that the company had reached with its IPs. Shin Megami Tensei 5's milestone success had been reported as well, noting that it had achieved over one million copies worldwide, alongside other spin-offs like Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2.

According to Sega President and CEO Haruki Satomi, the company is looking to surpass the next fiscal year with a few key strategies. This includes simultaneous global and multiplatform releases, as their successes with Persona and Like a Dragon had caused a substantial amount of global sales growth. Not only that, Atlus will be looking to expand its global fanbase by remastering past Persona titles and other multiplatform releases, which includes the recently released port of P5R and the upcoming ports of P3P and P4G.
