Sometimes, a video game sequel is a matter of when, not if. Fans believed, for example, that God of War: Ragnarok was deep in development before it was ever announced. This tends to happen for a number of reasons, with the main one being the game or franchise’s popularity. That’s why before Persona 6 was ever confirmed to be in development, it trended online time and again with fans talking about it.

Now, it’s trending again as the latest rumors about the game have surfaced. It’s always a good measure to take rumors with a grain of salt, as nothing verifiable was offered about these claims, but they do add up in a general sense. Nonetheless, it has sparked a lot of excitement among fans who are ready for Atlus’ next foray into the popular franchise with Persona 6.

Many fans are talking about these Persona 6 rumors on Twitter and elsewhere, as video game leaker Nate the Hate briefly discussed it in a recent Nintendo switch predictions video. It should be noted that Nate the Hate has some credibility, having been correct in the past, but this is also easily speculative information. Essentially, Nate the Hate says the ongoing Persona anniversary announcements this year will end with Persona 6’s reveal—sometime in the second half of 2022.

The big kicker for many fans on Twitter seems to be Nate the Hate’s comment that Persona 6 may be a PS5 exclusive. It should be noted that Persona 5 is available on PS3 and PS4, although Persona 5 Royal is only currently available on PS4. Many fans seem to disagree with Nate the Hate, believing Atlus would release Persona 6 as a cross-gen PS4/PS5 title. Indeed, while Persona 6’s actual release date could be a couple of years away even if it were revealed later this year, many want to see it on PS4 likely due to scarcity and supply issues.

PS5s are notoriously hard to come by, and it stands to reason this could last a little longer. After all, Sony is reportedly making more PS4s due to the ongoing PS5 shortages. PS5s may be more easily accessible by the release of Persona 6, but that has a lot of variables involved—cross-gen, as many argue, would make Persona 6 much easier to get hands-on. For now, fans will just need to wait and see what Atlus announces, whenever it announces the game.

Persona 6 is reportedly in development.
