While the Persona series first began in 1996 with Revelations: Persona, the series has never been as popular as it has been now. Both Persona 3 and Persona 4 helped get the series get a sizable fanbase, but many wouldn't have heard about it if it weren't for Persona 5's release.

Now that Persona 5 Royal has been released for quite some time now, many are wondering about the possible development for Persona 6. It almost seems like a given to continue the series with there now being more fans of it than ever all around the world. At this time however, its development status remains unconfirmed.

The potential for Persona 6 could be the most any Persona game has ever had. This is due to the amount of feedback given by fans on Persona 5 and previous entries in the series that newer fans got the chance to look back on. While this feedback was definitely heard and applied for Persona 5 Royal, even more has the potential to make its way into Persona 6 and make it possibly the best game in the series.

Return of Beloved Scrapped Features

With there being a rather long timeline in the history of Persona games and their development, there have been multiple features that have been abandoned in later games. While some of these were cut out for the better, others are greatly missed by fans of the series.

One of these biggest scrapped features was the ability to choose the main protagonist's gender in Persona 3 Portable. With this being the only game to have this feature, many first assumed that this would become the norm in future games upon its release. However, it became clear that it was abandoned later on for Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5. Fans still held hope when they saw the trailers for Persona 5 Royal, thinking that Kasumi would be a female protagonist option only to find her to be a new party member.

The most likely reason for there being a lack of gender options would be due to every single anime cutscene needing to be created twice in order to include both protagonists. This could potentially be very expensive for the studio depending on the amount of cutscenes.

Additionally, many Social Links would change depending on the gender of the protagonist with many of them potentially leading to romantic relationships. Unless every single social link or confidant character was bisexual, many of them would change immensely.

Of course, with the popularity of Persona being at its highest, there is a chance this feature could return. There is also a good potential for people to buy Persona 6 due to there being gender options. It would additionally create more replay value if there are any changes due to the difference in gender.

Hundred of Personas to Choose From

Many of the Persona games have the protagonist hold the power of the wild card. This gives them the ability to use multiple Personas and fuse them into new Personas in the Velvet Room. Even without including the Personas owned by other party members throughout the series, there are hundreds of possible Personas that players can obtain and use. Persona 6 has the potential to have every single Persona all in one game alongside brand new ones.

While most players won't fill out their Persona compendium on their first playthrough of any Persona game, New Game Plus has been an important part of most games. By having an incredibly long list of possible Personas included some old ones that haven't been seen in a long time, players can potentially go on a long fusion hunt for the ultimate challenge. This will also give players even more options for how they would want to tackle the game and with which Personas.

Further Expansion on Fan-Favorite Features

Social Links/Confidants is one of the most beloved features of the Persona series despite only being added in Persona 3. This feature allows players to get to know and bond with those around them at their own pace outside of the main story. Some of these can lead to the player's character getting involved in romantic relationships with their party members, classmates, and friends.

While Persona 5 added more to the system with Confidants and special bonuses being added for spending time with certain characters, there are still many potential ways for the system to expanded. For example, there could be more branches to certain routes other than romantic and platonic. There could additionally be in-story changes between character interactions depending on character relationships like the protagonist's girlfriend being closer with them during parts of the story. Other expansions could include getting certain character together letting the player act as a sort of matchmaker.

Overall, this could make the Social Links/Confidants feel less like something happening outside the story and more like additions that actually affect what is going on. Of course there are already Social Links and Confidants that can completely affect what ending players get, but these interactions affecting more minor things like character to character interactions would really help players feel more like a driving force in the story rather than someone who has things happen to them.

More Unique Additions to Battle

Many Persona fans agree that Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal have added on to the battle system in the Persona series in the best ways out of any other games in the series. They not only added more use for every single party member, but they also added plenty of new actions to take in battle.

With Persona 6, even more could be added to make it both unique from Persona 5, but also make something even more interesting and enjoyable. It is extremely unlikely that Persona 6 would take the route of Phantom Thieves again, but its new theme could lend to these new possible battle concepts. Of course, with all of the fan feedback and opinions online, it is very likely for developers to know exactly what do in order to both please fans and create a fun experience.

At this point, anything involving Persona 6 is up to speculation. However, it is also important to not hold one's expectations too high for a game that hasn't even been announced to the public yet.
