Real-world mythology and folklore play a significant role in the Shin Megami Tensei franchise and the spiritual successor series, the Persona games. Each supernatural ally is a god, demon, or another kind of mythical figure from some of Earth's oldest myths, legends, and beliefs. Persona 5 Royal, being the newest title in the series, has incorporated many personas from previous games as well as a few new ones. Succubus is one such persona that has been in this series since the very first Megami Tensei title that was released in 1987. She is a female demon of infamous renown whose deeds became known all throughout medieval Europe.

Not unlike a vampire, she visits people in the night, specifically men, and takes advantage of them to harvest their life essence. Sometimes even to the point of permanently crippling or killing her targets. Appropriately, her in-game appearance in P5R revolves around her putting foes to sleep, which is always a handy skill. Since she is an early-game persona, her fusion recipes are pretty inexpensive and involve mostly easily acquired components. Though, be sure to save up if one has a spare Succubus at higher levels, for she can herself be used as fusion material to create an even mightier persona!

10 Agathion & Arsene (Recipe) - $5,068

a abrahamic demon and a winged allegory for a fictional detective

Fusion in Persona 5 Royal can sometimes be quite deep, merging two similar personas into one with both lore and game-stat significance. However, this is not always true, especially early in the game when there needs to be a wide base to the fusion pyramid and many possible combinations for the mechanics to function properly later on.

In the cheapest fusion for Succubus, we have a supernatural creature from Abrahamic mythology. Agathion is an ancient type of pocket monster in the form of a spirit that magicians can contain in jars or jewelry and unleash onto their foes at will. The other half of this fusion is Arsene, the persona that Joker starts with at the beginning of the game.

9 Clotho (Result) - $19,819

figure from greek mythology

By fusing the visually appealing Succubus with another persona in the form of a beautiful woman, Yaksini, one can create Clotho. This thread spinner is the youngest of the three sisters of fate from Greco-Roman mythology. She is said to be the beginning of the process in which the Fates use to measure the lives of all creatures on Earth.

Clotho specializes in inflicting the "Forget" status change on enemies. This ailment renders targets unable to use any of their skills, meaning that they can only use their basic attacks or non-combat options, such as running away. This could be a great way to Hold Up personas or simply dominate them in battle.

8 Incubus & Pixie (Recipe) - $5,959

a demon and a fairy

As a fellow demon who preys upon people in the night, Incubus is as appropriate a fusion component for Succubus as fans of the lore could hope for. In addition to having a skill that inflicts the sleep status, this winged demon of depravity also has the Life Drain skill, which is suitable for both mythology reasons and for making treks through longer, tougher dungeons less dangerous.

Pixie hails from English mythology and is often depicted as a sneaky and mischievous little fairy that enjoys playing pranks on humans. As one of the lowest level personas, she isn't the ideal one to bring into combat. That is unless the player needs some cheap Electric attacks.

7 Belphegor (Result) - $26,524

demon on a toilet

By fusing Succubus with the warrior persona Setanta, the player can create a stronger demon in the form of Belphegor. This horned, toilet-trained beast from the underworld is attributed to the sin of sloth and his lazy appearance in-game is a noticeable nod to this.

Belphegor's most useable qualities are his great skills that focus on dealing out lots of Ice damage. He has attacks of this element, but also useful supporting skills like Ice Break, which lowers the enemies' resistance to the coldest of assaults for three turns.

6 Silky & Arsene (Recipe) - $6,175

spirit from scotland and a winged allegory figure

Ethereal figures make for decent fusion material for Succubus in regards to theme, and this can be seen as Silky joins Arsene for this merging. Silky is a spectral fairy from Scottish mythology who can be identified by the rustling of her lush garments. She is known to scare and harass lazy household servants who shrug off their duties. She has a wide variety of skills that makes her versatile, yet not really that effective at anything, dooming her to existence as fusion material.

Arsene falls into a similar category in his current form. His lightly damaging Gun, Physical, and Curse skills are useful in the beginning, although soon get outperformed by the attacks of many other personas, which encourages the player to turn to fusions and recruitment for stronger ones.

5 Legion (Result) - $41,995

a demon from abrahamic mythology

If one combines Succubus with the Egyptian god Anubis, they can generate the disgusting demon that is Legion. This amalgamation of multiple fiends once possessed a man in the bible who was exorcised personally by Jesus Christ. When expelled from the man, Legion begged not to be banished back to hell and was spared, though only to live among a heard pigs.

In-game, they possess the trait Draining Mouth, which allows their gluttonous form to be of aid to Joker's party in that it doubles the effectiveness of draining skills, such as Legion's Drain Life. This ball of hideous faces also has some heavily-damaging attacks like the Physical Bloodbath skill and the Curse-type one known as Eigaon.

4 Saki Mintama & Incubus (Recipe) - $7,327

an aspect of good thoughts from japanese mythology and a winged demon

Here there is a mix of mythologies from very different parts of the world. Saki Mintama is an aspect of the human soul in the Shinto religion hailing from Japan that encompasses good thoughts and is said to bring good fortune to hunters and gatherers. Accordingly, they specialize in defensive skills to benefit one's party as well as possessing the Growth 1 passive skill that results in 25% more experience gain while inactive.

Incubus returns in this fusion due to the game developers as Atlus wishing to include lore-friendly fusions as much as they can. This has been a common trait in many Persona games as Incubus has been in the series as long as Succubus has. Furthermore, they are often mentioned alongside one another when people discuss the myths of predatory demons of the night.

3 Thunderbird (Result) - $29,584

mythical creature from north american folklore

Players can sometimes fuse personas with the components used to summon them in the first place for even greater allies. In this manner, Succubus can merge with Clotho to form the mighty Thunderbird. This electric avian is one of the few references to North American folklore, originating from Native American tales of giant, winged beasts who embody storms.

As one would expect, Thunderbird prioritizes dishing out Electric attacks above everything else. They even have a trait that reduces the SP cost of such skills and passive aspects that increase damage done by their devastating bolts. Many of these have a chance to shock the enemies who are struck, rendering them incapable of performing actions for a time.

2 Hua Po & Mandrake (Recipe) - $8,236

a chinese spirit and an english one

The combination of these two spirits results in the wicked Succubus, and for good reason. Hua Po from Chinese mythology is said to be a kind of spirit that dwells within the trees where multiple people have hanged themselves. They take the form of young women who cannot speak, although emit beautiful birdsongs instead. They specialize in delivering Fire damage to foes and increasing the chance of burning them.

Mandrake, a similarly macabre spirit, comes from English mythology. Much like Hua Po, this plant-like fiend grows from the resting places of the dead, though this time from the graves of those guilty of crimes. When plucked from the ground, they will unleash a horrid screech that can kill or deafen those nearby. This is represented by the confusion-inflicting skills that Mandrake possesses.

1 Andras (Result) - $13,555

demon from the lesser key of solomon

The fusion that involves mixing Succubus with the thematically opposite Archangel leads to one of the best early-game personas that one can generate with Succubus. Andras is a demon from the mid-17th century demonology grimoire known as The Lesser Key of Solomon. Occultists during this era would attempt to summon this demon up from hell to do their bidding, not unlike how Persona 5 treats personas. In fact, this is likely one of the main factors that influenced the creation of the entire franchise.

Furthermore, Andras has some of the best fear-related skills in the game. His main combat strategies involve locking down enemies with waves of terror before unleashing his sinister skill Ghastly Wail, which outright kills every adversary currently under the influences of fear. With this tactic, players can obliterate even full parties of enemies in as little as two turns; an immensely overpowered maneuver for the point in the game which one can acquire the level 27 Andras.
