The Major Arcana in the Persona games are equivalent to the cards in Tarot decks and each carries meaning pertaining to the original card referenced. The personas that the player can summon are all classified into specific Major Arcana based on their stats, lore, and personality.

Persona 5 Royal offers players a ton of powerful allies to summon and fuse to their heart's content. Those in need of higher magical damage should understandably seek out personas from the Magician Arcana. The beings of this group that can be called forth are often very determined individuals (or are cat-like), similar to Morgana: this Arcana's confidant. Be sure to spend lots of time with this feline character if the strongest Magician personas are what Joker seeks, for the best can only be attained when maxing out one's relationship with their furry fellow Phantom Thief.

Updated on May 4, 2021, by Reyadh Rahaman: In Tarot lore, the Magician card represents one demonstrating their true potential and never holding back. All of the personas in this Major Arcana fit this vibe very well in that they are some of the best allies to send out aggressively for their high offensive potential in regards to magical and physical damage. The variability between each of these summonable beings is reflective of the different positions that this card can take during a Tarot reading. When played upright, the Magician means determined, dextrous, resourceful, and strong, while played reversed, it means confusion, deceit, foul intentions, and exhaustion.

Jack O'Lantern

the weakest magician arcana persona.

A tricky little fiend who once duped the Devil himself, Jack O'Lantern is a mischievous and witty spirit who originated in old European folklore but lives on today in modern Halloween traditions. At level 2, they are the lowest-level persona in the Magician Arcana, but a great one if early-game Fire damage is needed.

Jack O'Lantern is more often used as a fusion component for higher-level personas, however, if one wants to summon them, they can do so by merging Jack Frost and Cait Sith for $10,252.

Cait Sith

magician arcana persona that looks like a cat with a sword.

Hailing from Scottish folklore, their name literally translates to "fairy cat", for that is what they are. Able to speak many languages, they seek adventures both in human cities and cat kingdoms. At level 5, they are one of the lesser personas in this Arcana, though can be quite useful in the early game due to versatile skills that include dealing light Fire damage, buffing stats, and even slightly healing the whole party.

To acquire this animal ally, there are many cheap fusions. Though the least expensive, with the easiest fusion components to acquire, is to combine Silky and Mandrake for $6,643.

Jack Frost

magician arcana persona that is a spirit of winter.

This frosty little sprite is the harbinger of Winter for many Europeans. He is said to leave frost upon various objects, and even people, as he flits about the world casting ice magic and causing mischief. Jack Frost is also the mascot for the game developer responsible for creating the Persona series: Atlus.

At level 11, this Ice-wielding persona is great to use for the coldest kind of damage in the early game, though can also be used as a versatile fusion component for more powerful personas. The cheapest fusions to get Jack Frost on one's side both involve Succubus. Players can choose to merge her with either Kelpie or Saki Mitama at the cost of $8,227.

Nekomata

magician arcana persona that is a cat woman.

This being originates from Japanese mythology and is said to have once been a cat who lived for a long time and grew an impressively lengthy tail. They are often depicted as having supernatural powers that they use to benefit themselves or cause mischief for the sake of a little fun.

They specialize in Wind-related skills and some lightly damaging Physical ones. The most cost-efficient guaranteed fusion recipe for this level 17 ancient feline spirit mixes Ippon-Datara and Angel for $13,816.

Sandman

magician arcana persona that's a man with the a crescent moon for a head.

Sandman is a mythical figure from rural European folklore that is said to bring sleep to people as they lie in their beds. The origin of this myth is likely the bits of dusty mucus that people often awake to find in the corners of their eyes. This was said to be the traces left by the Sandman as he cast his magic sleeping sediment onto the eyes of most.

There's a darker part of this fable where he plucks out the eyes of those who refuse to fall asleep, even children. Accordingly, his skills in P5R revolve around sending foes to sleep, though he also has a few decent offensive Wind skills. The lowest-cost way to fuse this level 23 nocturnal fairy is to polymerize Leanan Sidhe and Black Ooze for $27,451.

Choronzon

Although much more famous for being mentioned by modern occultists, Choronzon was a demon first mentioned in writings from 16th century Europe. They represent a blockade for all those seeking mental clarity and this is reflected in their skillset with their strongest magical ones pertaining to Curse-type damage.

They also have a great passive skill that boosts Curse damage done by a sufficient 25%. This level 28 demon can be summoned by fusing Isis and Nue for $39,142.

Queen Mab

queen of the fairies in celtic mythology

This mythical Celtic queen among fairies is the most hated rival of the legendary warrior Cu Chulainn. There have been many conflicts between the two, though the warrior almost always triumphs, leaving Queen Mab surrounded by dead servents. She is also referenced in a lot of classic poetry and theatrical plays, the most famous being from the first act of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Level 43 Queen Mab can be a great persona if one seeks magical damage since her Agidyne skill lets her unleash heavy Fire damage onto a single foe backed by a decently high Magic stat. Another of her skills, Concentrate, can be used to multiply the damage of her next magic attack by 2.5 for some serious scorching. Ally with this Celtic queen for relatively cheap by fusing Thunderbird and Jikokuten for $55,630.

Rangda

magician arcana persona in the form of a witch with long claws.

This evil sorceress is the dark half of the eternal conflict in Balinese mythology. This infinite battle against Barong, the personification of good, usually alternates between the two sides gaining and losing power in an undulating confrontation. Rangda comes with a heavily damaging Physical skill called Bloodbath, which strikes at all foes, though her more powerful skills are the Curse-type ones.

Eigaon lets loose heavy Curse damage upon a single enemy while Mudoon grants a moderate chance to instantly kill a target. With the trait Cursed Bloodline, she can unleash these sinister attacks for half their usual cost. The level 48 evil witch is guaranteed to be acquired by fusing Pazuzu and Red Rider for $115,192.

Forneus

A wise demon from the Lesser Key of Solomon and a few other demonology texts, Forneus's sea monster form is often depicted as a monstrous whale, though their Persona 5 Royal form looks to be more like a humanoid figure combined with a stingray. Their most impressive skills focus on dealing heavy Psychic damage to adversaries and occasionally brainwashing them to form a temporary alliance with a foe.

These strategies reference Forneus' lore as possessing great skill in speech and forming friendships. This level 63 demon can be summoned for certain via the fusion of Sarasvati and Fortuna at a cost of $141,022.

Surt

powerful figure from norse mythology

This immensely powerful giant from Norse mythology was said to have created the stars from his might flames. It is also said that he will bring them back down to immolate parts of the Nine Worlds during the end of days: Ragnarok. In P5R he has suitable skills to reference this burning intensity in that he is one of the personas capable of dealing the most damage with Fire-type attacks.

With those that deal severe Fire and colossal Physical damage, Surt is a great endgame summon at level 83. They even have a passive skill and a trait that increases their Fire damage while decreasing the cost. For the relatively reasonable (compared to other fusions for endgame personas) cost of $237,142, players can create Surt from merging Byakhee and Parvati.

Futsunushi

magician arcana persona as the japanese personification of the sword.

At first appearing as an odd choice for the highest level persona in the Magician Arcana, Futsunushi is very much oriented towards physical skills as opposed to magical. They are the Japanese personification of the sword, known for having an immensely sharp mind and unshakable willpower: two traits that very much represent this Arcana. They have the skill Charge, which boosts the next physical attack by a huge 2.5 multiplier. Their trait, Will of the Sword, triples this effect for one of the most insane physical buffs in the game.

If, after buffing, they are allowed to use their colossally damaging physical attack, Brave Blade, they can often one-shot most adversaries with the utmost ease. Before being able to call upon Futsunushi, however, one must max out their Magician confidant level with Morgana. If this criterion is met, players can fuse this level 86 sword deity with Cybele and Alice for $397,216.
