Persona 5 Royal Gets PS4 Release Window

Over the last few months, Atlus has slowly been working its way towards a date for the western release of Persona 5 Royal. The developer hasn't reached a definite answer to give fans; nevertheless, Persona 5 Royal's release window narrowed following an announcement at the Atlus Art Show in Los Angeles.

Royal is the revamp of critically-acclaimed RPG Persona 5, which will see players exploring a third school semester packed full of new features, areas, and characters, including a notable new addition Kasumi Yoshizawa, a transfer student and rhythmic gymnast. These new elements expand on Persona 5's already ample size, the original having released back in 2016.

Atlus made the announcement a couple of months ago that Royal would be coming to the west in 2020, with Japanese fans set to grab the game on its October 31, 2019 launch date. Now, the developer has also confirmed that the game's western version will be available for PlayStation 4 sometime next spring. This release date announcement was also accompanied by a new trailer which, among other things, showed off team attacks alongside Kasumi and her Persona.

While the announcement still leaves a decent-sized chunk of time, Atlus does have other projects in currently in the works that could also excite fans, including a semi-remake of Catherine called Catherine: Full Body. The studio has also been working on an action-based spinoff of the game called Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, which doesn't currently have a release date. Fans of the series have also been hoping for a Nintendo Switch port of Persona 5, though despite rumors, this doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon.

This release window will give Persona 5 fans something to look forward to come next spring at the very least. Hopefully, all of Royal's updated features are worth what will likely be a seven-to-nine month wait (and the cost of the new game), as the original game was dubbed by many critics to be one of the greatest RPGs of all time. For now, Persona fans have little else to check out besides the Persona 5 Royal teaser trailers and in-game screenshots unveiled by Atlus.
