Persona 5 Royal is the definitive edition of one of the most popular JRPGs of all time. The game's striking art style and amazing plot contributed to its massive success, with many people getting into the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series courtesy of this landmark title. After being an exclusive PlayStation title for the longest time, Persona 5 Royalalong with its predecessors — was finally released on all major systems with great aplomb.

With more and more people finally getting to experience this masterpiece for themselves, it's only a given that certain doubts might be harbored when it comes to collecting and upgrading the many Personas that Joker can capture in the game. However, certain Personas are absolutely useless and not worth leveling up at all.

10 Pixie

Pixie From Persona And Shin Megami Tensei

Any Persona with too many weaknesses is bound to be a liability for Joker. This is why Personas like Pixie should never be equipped on the protagonist, since his death will lead to an instant Game Over.

Instead, it's better for players to just use weak fodder like Pixie for Fusions, Executions, and everything else along the same lines. There is no reason to use Pixie in combat unless players have no other way to access a particular skill — or they just want to make the game tougher for themselves.

9 Pisaca

Pisaca in Persona 5

While Pisaca might only have two weaknesses, that is still less than ideal for a character whose survival is critical to completing the game. It's a shame, since there's no denying that Pisaca has a pretty interesting design.

To make this worse, the only offensive skills this Persona has are Mudo and Life Drain. This isn't mind-blowing by any stretch of the imagination, especially when players have progressed quite a bit into the game.

8 Decarabia

Decarabia Persona 5 Royal

Physical attacks are the bread-and-butter of Persona 5 that players will both dish out and absorb. They're the most common attacks around, and being weak to them is pretty much a death sentence.

This is precisely why using Decarabia is not recommended. No amount of benefits can ever justify the main character being weak to the most common type of attack in the entire game!

7 Black Ooze

slime monster in the moon arcana.

Another Persona appears with a whopping three weaknesses, the utility of the Black Ooze suffers as a result. Nulling Curse is nowhere near enough to make up for this massive drawback.

Jokes will be an easy target for any enemy that can exploit his weakness, leading to the party facing a tough time in most battles. Just like Pixie, Black Ooze is another Persona that is better off being used for anything else but battling.

6 Slime

Slime in Persona 5

At a glance, Slime seems like a decent Persona that players can get their hands on early on in their run. However, while the resistance to both Physical and Gun attacks is quite welcome, these benefits come at a great cost.

This is because Slime is weak to both Fire and Wind, which are pretty common elements that early-game enemies use. As a result, many players might get frustrated trying to bring its strengths into battle only for Joker to be knocked down over and over again.

5 Silky

spirit from european folklore in the priestess arcana.

Most early game Personas exist only to teach the player the mechanics of the game. Sooner or later, more powerful Personas will be unlocked in each Arcana that completely dwarf its predecessors in terms of battle effectiveness and overall hardiness.

Silky is one such Persona that players should discard the moment they get a better option. Her weakness to both Fire and Electric makes her a liability in the majority of situations, and most players will be glad to get rid of her after experiencing these annoyances for themselves.

4 Jack-o-Lantern

Jack-o'-Lantern in Persona 5

Speaking of low-level Personas, another great shoutout is Jack-o-Lantern. Fire may be a fun element to use in the game, but players will get access to more fiery Personas pretty soon through regular gameplay.

It doesn't help that most players have to delve into the very depths of Mementos to even find this Persona as a regular enemy. Pretty much the only reason anyone would want a Jack-o-Lantern is to fuse Black Frost later on, and obtaining this low-level Persona through a cheap fusion is the best way to do that.

3 Hua Po

chinese spirit from the hanged man arcana.

Hua Po can repel Fire, which might make her a decent Persona in the eyes of many. However, players should keep in mind that the drawbacks of using this Persona can be quite fatal.

After all, Hua Po's ability to repel Fire means that certain Personas that absorb this element will benefit instead. Couple this with a weakness to both Ice and Gun attacks, and it's easy to see why this Persona is weak and not worth leveling up.

2 Incubus

Incubus From Persona And Shin Megami Tensei

Another low-level Persona makes its way on the list in the form of Incubus. There's little reason to keep this Persona in a player's party due to how weak and ineffective it is, barring a few odd encounters in the early game.

This demon might resist Electric attacks, but this comes at the cost of a debilitating weakness to Bless and Fire attacks. Players will soon find more powerful Personas in the game anyway, so leveling up Incubus becomes a pretty futile effort.

1 Arsene

persona 5 joker arsene

Most people would be up in arms at seeing the name of this beloved Persona on the list. After all, there's a viable case that most players can make when it comes to meticulously leveling up Joker's first Persona all the way to Level 99.

However, not only is the time investment for this task truly mind-boggling, but players will need many good Skill Cards to make Arsene competent as they go through the Palaces in the game. Outside of a challenge run, this endeavor is extremely time-consuming, and players are better off opting for other Personas instead.
