Outside of saving the world and taking hearts, the protagonist of Persona 5 Royal spends a fair amount of time boosting his relationships with his comrades and even going on dates. Kasumi Yoshizawa, one of the new characters added to the cast in the expanded Persona 5 Royal is a potential dating partner, but it looks as though things could have gone a little differently with her based on a newly discovered scene.

In the official game's release, Persona 5's Yoshizawa can spend a romantic time with protagonist Joker on both Valentine's Day and White Day. While the uncovered scene in question undoes these scenes, it does help to explain an issue with the game's ending that players have been puzzled by since the game's release.

*Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Persona 5 Royal*

In the newly discovered scene, it seems that the protagonist loses the chance to spend time with Yoshizawa after he's released from prison. (The date shown in the video is simply a placeholder.) The scene in question shows Joker settling into his daily life at school again, and having a conversation with fellow Phantom Thief Ryuji. According to Ryuji, Yoshizawa has completely left school in order to focus on her studies in gymnastics. An admirable goal, to be sure, but one that leaves Joker without his sweetheart on Valentine's and White Day.

However, it's not all bad news. Somehow - thought it remains unclear when or how - Yoshizawa snuck her Valentine's chocolate gift into Joker's bag. Morgana discovers it on the way to school and gives it to Joker after he settles down for class. It's worth noting that the gift is exactly the same one that Yoshizawa gives to Joker in their actual Valentine's Day scene.

The interesting thing about this cut cutscene is that it seems to offer an answer about Yoshizawa's sudden absence at the end of Persona 5 Royal. In the final true ending of the game, Joker is given an opportunity to visit all of his highly-ranking social links just before he heads home, but Yoshizawa is notably absent even if the player maxes out her confidant rating. Although she's briefly seen in an animated cutscene just before the game closes, it's an oddly distant goodbye.

It's possible that Atlus felt players would be disappointed to barely have any romantic scenes with Yoshizawa and changed the game accordingly. Considering the outspoken disappointment at barely getting to see her at the end of the game, it's a good thing that Atlus didn't go with this original scene.
