It's been rumored that a Persona 5 fighting game is in the works. Fans have been eagerly awaiting any news about the sequel Persona 6, but the rumors about a Persona 5 fighting game have some fans worried that it may impact the sequel's release date. Given the overwhelming popularity that Persona 5 has garnered, it makes sense that Atlus may be interested in another spin-off title. But if the rumors are true, several factors point towards those worries being unwarranted.

The rumors about a Persona 5 fighting game started with the name of a websites Atlus claimed. The previous Persona fighter was commonly abbreviated to P4U and the website claimed by Atlus includes P5U. This seemingly small detail points toward a new game in the same vein of Persona 4 Ultimax Arena, and that has fans of the series excited. And if a Persona 5 fighting game is on the way, it is probably being developed by a different studio than the main Persona team.

Persona 6 Fans Shouldn't Worry About the Persona 5 Fighting Game

With the popularity of the newest game in the franchise, a Persona 5 fighting game just makes sensePersona 5 is highly regarded as one of the best in the series and has drawn in a lot of new fans. The long-running JRPG franchise is more popular now than ever, and many fans would love to see the game receive a full-fledged fighting game. Joker's presence in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has already shown off how interesting the characters of Persona 5 can be in a fighting game context. If the rumors are true, the game is likely being developed by Arc System Works. That studio already created Persona 4 Ultimax Arena and more recently saw a lot of success with Dragon Ball FighterZ.

If a separate studio is working on the potential P5 fighter, it's unlikely to affect the development time for Persona 6, which already has GTA 6 levels of hype surrounding it. While some of the main creative minds behind P5 are likely to be involved with a fighting game, it's most likely in a consultant-type role to maintain character integrity. A game similar to P4U would definitely expand the main game's lore past its ending much the same way that Persona 5 Strikers did. But fans of the game would probably enjoy seeing characters from older Persona games interacting (and battling) with Joker and the rest of the Phantom Thieves.

The spin-offs of Persona 5 like Strikers have been incredibly popular following the success of the main game so a fighting game seems likely. Especially given the popularity of other games from Arc System like FighterZ, and the long time fans are likely still going to wait before Persona 6 another spin-off game could help satiate fans. Given that if the rumors are true though, a Persona 5 fighting game is unlikely to impact the development time of Persona 6. Atlus is likely aware of how much pressure Persona 6 is under to meet expectations. So with that it's unlikely that it would take chances with another spin-off title without offloading the bulk of development to another studio.

Persona 5 fighting game is rumored to be in development.
