When Persona 5 was released, those gamers who picked up the game immediately realised that the title was something special. Building upon what was successful about the previous games, Persona 5 proved to be a hugely important title for RPGs in general. As it turns out, this has made the game into something of an instant classic, as Persona 5 has just been voted the best RPG of all time.

That is, according to Famitsu readers. Famitsu opened up a survey, allowing gamers to vote on what they thought was the best RPG of all time, and over 2,000 votes were cast between June 22 and June 28. In the end, Persona 5 ended up being the surprise winner, beating some long-standing classics from the RPG genre.

Persona 5 ended up with 256 votes and the top spot, with its closest rival, Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation coming in second with 218 votes. Meanwhile, Chrono Trigger rounded out the medal places in third with 194 votes, while another recent release came in fourth, in the form of NieR: Automata.

It's perhaps not surprising to see Persona 5 faring so well in the poll, given its recent release and the fact that the game is considered by many to be one of the PS4 games that make the console worth buying. Nonetheless, it may well be a shock for others, particularly given that some long-standing icons of the genre were soundly beaten, such as Final Fantasy 7's fifth place position.

The Persona series has had a solid if not spectacularly large following in the West, but Persona 5 has done much to help make the beloved franchise into one of the main competitors in the RPG world. Given its unique tone, of course, many of those who are new to the series in general certainly could have benefitted from some handy Persona 5 beginner's tips.

All in all, Persona 5 is a brilliant game, and regardless of whether it deserves to be considered the best RPG of all time discerning RPG fans should definitely try it out. Of course, those who truly get immersed in the game might want to know how to get the good ending of Persona 5, but others would no doubt be willing to simply strap in for the ride.
