A staple of the franchise since Persona 3, the social link system has been a core gameplay mechanic that rewards players for interacting with other characters. These rewards usually manifest as increased prowess in battle, or as buffs to various social stats (such as charm, guts, kindness, etc).
In these interactions, players will notice that each character has a corresponding tarot arcana associated with them, mirroring their overall personalities and quirks. Bearing this connection in mind, players can use real-world personality tests like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to place themselves into Persona 5, and definitively discover their arcana.
8 The Magician - ENFP
The Magician arcana symbolizes the beginnings of a journey, and the unlimited possibilities that coincide with that. In the confines of Persona 5, the ever-enthusiastic team mascot Morgana fills the role of the Magician. He serves as a unifying force for the Phantom Thieves, and gives the player a crash course on thievery when they first meet. People who identify as being spontaneous, supportive, and are altogether enthusiastic will find themselves a natural fit for the Magician arcana.
7 The Priestess - ISTJ
The Priestess (or High Priestess, in some tarot decks) embodies a person following an inner path, and someone who systematically creates the steps they need to follow that path. Bearing this in mind, it's no wonder the role of Priestess is filled by Makoto Nijima, the studious class president seeking to forge her own path in a world that has chronically told her what to do. Those with a strong sense of judgment, responsibility, and have a systematic approach to life will feel right at home with the Priestess arcana.
6 The Empress - ISFJ
The Empress arcana tends to be associated with the traditional qualities of femininity, such as care, compassion, and motherly affection, but the Empress arcana can also be associated with those who are more in tune with the natural world.
Given Haru Okumura's notable green thumb, she rounds out this particular arcana quite well, as will anyone who identifies their personalities as being warm, gentle, and generally helpful to others.
5 The Emperor - INFP
The Emperor arcana is much the same as the Empress, however, it tends to be associated with the general idea of masculinity, or more masculine qualities. However, it can also describe someone who is attempting to change and control the world around them. It's perhaps fitting that Yusuke Kitagawa's journey to depict true beauty in his art makes him a natural fit for this arcana. People who are similarly creative and idealistic may also find the Emperor appealing, as well as those who like to focus on their aspirations and what could be.
4 The Lovers - ESFJ
Depending on the reading ascribed to it, the Lovers arcana can either be brutally literal or represent a crossroads in one's own life. In the case of Ann Takamaki, the decision to pursue her career in modeling more seriously weighs heavily on her, and this is seen throughout the numerous interactions the player has with her. Those who are more outgoing, friendly, and generally want to help others may find the Lovers arcana to be a good fit for them.
3 The Chariot - ESFP
The Chariot arcana is all about self-improvement. More specifically, it focuses on the desire to become a better person, whether it is by becoming physically stronger or by being better to others. The paths towards this improvement are numerous and oftentimes difficult, but those of the Chariot arcana persevere through these trials and tribulations on their way to becoming a better person.
Ryuji Sakamoto can be seen as brash or prone to conflict, but much of this stems from the fierce loyalty he holds for his friends and teammates. Those with a similar level of fierce loyalty to their friends, or for those who share the same level of overall enthusiasm might find the Chariot to be an excellent arcana for them.
2 Justice - ENTJ
The Justice arcana represents logic and fierce objectivity. It's perhaps no wonder why Detective Prince Goro Akechi fits this particular arcana so nicely, as much of his overall worldview is comprised of a series of overlapping calculations and logical determinations. Everything is done with a large amount of planning, and no detail, no matter how small, is left overlooked. Players with a similar love of logical reasoning, long-term planning, and a certain level of ambition will feel quite comfortable in the Justice arcana.
1 The Hermit - INTP
Perhaps the most cognitive of the arcanas, the Hermit represents wisdom and isolation. Those who fall into this arcana may struggle somewhat in social settings, in part due to a more introverted nature. However, they are usually fiercely intelligent, and warm up to those with whom they open up to. This is perhaps no better personified than with the player's interactions with Futaba Sakura, the shut-in hacktivist member of the team. Those who are fiercely inquisitive or like to face new challenges may find themselves at home with the Hermit arcana.
