By the time Persona 4 Golden players unlock the Void Quest dungeon, they should have a pretty solid team and some decent Personas. Which is good, since the boss of Void Quest, Shadow Mitsuo Kubo, can be a wake-up call to those who may have been skating by the previous bosses. Understanding how the Shadow Mitsuo boss fight operates will give P4G players a good idea on how to tackle the remaining dungeons.

If Persona 4 Golden players haven't started building up Social Links, then they should start now. Stronger Arcanas mean stronger Personas, and this can be a huge help in the long run. Check in at the stores around Inaba for better armor, accessories, and items before reaching the final floor in Void Quest. P4G players will want to have their team no lower than level 45-46 for Shadow Mitsuo.

Shadow Mitsuo: Best Skills and Personas

The most frustrating thing about Shadow Mitsuo is that he's got zero Affinity Weaknesses (meaning less chance of Downing him) and is Strong against Physical and Almighty Skills. He's also a boss with two forms. Players will want to have a Persona with Mind Charge Skill, Stat-decreasing Support Skills (ex: Marakunda or Masukunda) and a -dyne tier Skill (ex: Agidyne). Even though Shadow Mitsuo has no Affinity Weaknesses, he will be damaged normally by Fire, Ice, Electric, and Wind Skills. So, players will want to use this to their advantage.

Recommended Personas are anything with high Magic and -dyne Skills. There are new Personas to obtain from Void Quest's Shuffle Time, so make sure to grab them for Fusions. The protagonist can fuse Mothman and Mithra (both obtainable through Shuffle Time in Void Quest) to create Dis. Get Dis to level 44 and she'll learn Mind Charge. She also learns Agidyne at level 43. If players have a Magic Attacker in another Persona, they can use that instead, but it's recommended to have the Mind Charge skill on at least one Persona. Players can simply Mind Charge then switch to a stronger Persona.

As for team lineup, bring Yukiko and Teddie to this battle. Yukiko for her healing, Me Patra, and Agi Skills, and Teddie for Energy Shower. The last teammate is left up to the player depending on what they need. Players can also keep Teddie out of the party if the protagonist has a Persona that can heal/buff/recover. However, keep in mind that the protagonist is most likely going to be the heavy hitter, so it's not wise to have him as both healer and attacker on a limited SP pool. If they're not careful, the protagonist can burn through his SP before he even realizes.

Just in case, players will want to bring SP-restoring items. These can be bought from the vending machines in the Shopping District (restores 10SP) or players can try and farm Snuff Souls from treasure chests. It's recommended to farm these in the lower-leveled dungeons (ex: Yukiko's Castle). Snuff Souls will restore 50SP to one ally. Players will also want to look for Amrita Sodas, too. This will cure certain status ailments (excluding Down and Dizzy) such as Fear.

If the IT has been consistent with the requests around Inaba, they may have access to better Weapons, so sell those Materials at Daidara Metalworks. If players don't have enough money, they can get more by defeating the Golden Hand enemies in dungeons. They're fast and difficult to defeat without the right Persona, so farm them in Yukiko's Castle or Steamy Bathhouse. Golden Hand enemies will also give a lot of EXP.

Shadow Mitsuo Strategy

Sit through Mitsuo yelling at his Shadow, and the boss fight will eventually commence. Shadow Mitsuo initially takes the form of 8-bit Hero, and only by depleting 8-bit Hero's HP can players get to Mitsuo's real Shadow. Shadow Mitsuo will always attack twice, and he'll start off with using the Attack and Bomb command. Bomb does more damage than Attack and can also cause Exhaustion. This is a dangerous status ailment for this boss since it will decrease its target's SP at the end of each turn. Get rid of it immediately with the Energy Shower skill.

Shadow Mitsuo has access to all Wall Skills (ie: Red Wall, Blue Wall) and can nullify any stat bonuses/buffs with Dekaja and remove his own debuffs with Dekunda. He has tier-2 Skills such as Garula and Magarula. On top of this, he can even use Megidola, which is a Skill that deals medium Almighty damage to the entire party.

Once 8-Bit Hero falls, the "baby" Mitsuo will use Stagnant Air. This will make it easier for him to inflict status ailments on the party. If he uses Evil Smile or Evil Touch, he can inflict the Fear status ailment. Like Exhaustion, this isn't a status ailment that players will want on their character for too long. Characters that have Fear can be insta-killed by Ghastly Wail. Have Yukiko cast Me Patra to cure the Fear ailment as quickly as possible (or take an Amrita Soda).

Make sure Shadow Mitsuo doesn't get a 1 More since he will always follow up with Megidola. When he casts a Wall Skill, he'll follow up with a Skill of that same element (ie: Green Wall, then Magarula). Therefore, players should know which Skill he's going to use next and which character needs to Guard.

It's recommended to have the protagonist equipped with a Persona that has Me Patra (or Patra) in case Yukiko or Teddie can't move during their turn.

When the "baby" Mitsuo has half to a quarter HP, he'll start using Whisper, Chant, and Prayer to rebuild 8-bit Hero. If 8-bit Hero fully reforms, players will need to beat it again. Going for the All Out Attack when the baby/Core Mitsuo appears is a good way to decrease his HP and pile on damage.

Persona 4 Golden is available on PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
