Obsidian Entertainment is rolling out a hotfix for its recently released Xbox Game Pass title Pentiment that addresses a serious glitch that unexpectedly spoils its story. Since Pentiment is a story-focused game, players likely understand how serious of an issue delivering spoilers in the game's Journal could be. That's certainly why Obisidian has gone to the effort to rush out a hotfix, though Pentiment players should be aware that it may not arrive for several days.In Pentiment, players take on the role of artist Andreas Maler. Maler is caught up in a murder investigation that takes place over 25 years. Given the depth of the story, it should be understandable why Pentiment uses a Journal feature to help organize what players have experienced in the game. The Journal holds all manner of important information, including maps, a glossary, and profiles for the many individuals that players come across while playing Pentiment.RELATED: Obsidian Announces Pentiment PC System RequirementsThe Pentiment Journal, unfortunately, features a glitch that can spoil players regarding upcoming story elements well before they reach that part of the game. The specific area mentioned by those who have been spoiled is in the People menu of the Journal. Certain character profiles were sharing details that hadn't happened yet. Worse yet, the profiles with spoiler information were seen extremely early in the game for details that could prove revelatory to ongoing mysteries.

The new Pentiment hotfix will fix this glitch and should ensure players are no longer spoiled. The problem is that Obsidian isn't able to issue the hotfix to all players on all platforms immediately. It will take a "few days" for the hotfix to roll out. As such, Pentiment players may want to be wary of looking at character profiles while they play this weekend. Alternatively, starting up Pentiment next week would guarantee to avoid spoilers in the Journal.

Since Obsidian is issuing the hotfix for the spoiler glitch, it's also addressing some other issues with the game at the same time. The hotfix notes reference adding a slider for the volume of writing sounds, replacing missing text for Turkish-speaking regions, and fixing various stability and presentation issues.

If Pentiment players see that an update for the game is pending, then it's worth downloading to avoid any spoilers. The added benefit of a more stable game should make the update all the more attractive. Those who haven't had a patch downloaded yet should be wary, otherwise. Pentiment's story is worth going in without spoilers.

Pentiment is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
