Peacemaker is already more than halfway through its first season as The Suicide Squad spinoff establishes its signature brand of humor in DC's world. However, a video revealed by star Jennifer Holland shows actors John Cena and Chukwudi Iwuji had on-set conversations that weren’t as funny as the dialogue on the show.

Holland is among the few cast members reprising their roles from The Suicide Squad in Peacemaker, just like fellow actor and comedian Steve Agee who plays John Economos, where she stands out as one of the more professional and deadly members of the “Project Butterfly” black ops team. Danielle Brooks and Iwuji round off the rest of the A.R.G.U.S. squad, playing Leota Adebayo and Clemson Murn, respectively, though the former appears to be the only one who can sympathize with Holland when they’re in between takes.

As seen in a short video shared by Holland on Twitter, Cena and Iwuji basically can’t help but talk about watches every time they get the chance. This meant that she and Brooks had to endure the rambling of these timepiece connoisseurs for six months of filming. Although the pair can’t be heard referring to any specific watches, and Peacemaker doesn’t even wear a watch, Cena is a noted Rolex collector, and he can constantly be seen sporting fancy watches from that brand, even in F9.

Holland, on the other hand, seems to prefer a useful Apple Watch. Meanwhile, John Economos has a Casio in Peacemaker that simply fits his character perfectly. Murn's watch is definitely harder to pin down, but it’s probably safe to dismiss any watches being used as crucial plot points like Hawkeye did with its own mystery Rolex.

In any case, James Gunn sure loves working with both Cena and Iwuji, since his decision to work on Peacemaker was partly motivated by Cena and their experience in The Suicide Squad, plus the fact that he’s bringing Iwuji over to Guardians of the Galaxy 3, where he’ll undoubtedly be playing a character not as stern as Murn. Gunn actually decided on Iwuji while filming Peacemaker's hilarious dance intro, so perhaps there might be some dancing in the next Guardians of the Galaxy adventure.

So far Peacemaker episodes have gotten good reviews, as Gunn's writing has ensured the show’s crass humor lands well with fans, even if DC doesn’t like to see Batman being mocked for his unwillingness to kill anyone in order to achieve peace, though even that's starting to wear off on the struggling superhero.

Peacemaker episodes 1-5 are now available on HBO Max.
