Directors in Hollywood are known for their unique ways of preparing for a shoot and it seems like James Gunn isn’t any different. On social media, the director has shared a behind-the-scenes image to offer his followers insight into how he prepares for a scene on his upcoming HBO Max series Peacemaker, a method he apparently follows for all his projects.

In the image, Gunn is seen standing in front of a storyboard and the caption reveals that the director draws every shot of a scene before it is actually filmed. With all the shots placed on a board, each is then “crossed off one by one” as filming progresses. To fans’ disappointment, the image doesn’t give away any spoilers for Peacemaker, with the contents of each scene cleverly redacted by Gunn.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, which isn’t very surprising, it seems like Gunn is having a lot of fun shooting the series, a John Cena-starring project, to the extent where the director is now ready to make only television series' after Peacemaker. It has been confirmed that the eight-episode season of Peacemaker, with the script written by Gunn himself, will explore the origins of the character that Cena will be seen playing in The Suicide Squad. As such, there is no reason to be concerned that the existence of the series spoils Peacemaker's fate in The Suicide Squad.

In the comics, Peacemaker is an interesting character, as he is willing to go to any extent, even kill someone, for the sake of achieving peace. Initially, he was more of a self-described pacifist, who refused to use lethal weapons for his battles but became more violent over time. In past interviews, Gunn has expressed excitement at being able to dive deeper into the character’s story with the HBO Max series and it seems like Cena couldn’t be happier, with the actor showing up to interviews in his costume.

When Gunn signed up for the Suicide Squad reboot, many fans were surprised by the decision. As someone who brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy to life, his jump to the DC Extended Universe left some confused. But, as a comic book fanatic, Gunn has previously confirmed that he is well-versed in both DC and Marvel characters.

The Suicide Squad has completed shooting and is scheduled for an August release. The film will bring forth several new DC anti-heroes and reintroduce fans to Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn

Peacemaker is currently in production at HBO Max.
