It appears that James Gunn will not be parting ways with DC anytime soon, as the director has shared that he will be involved with another project for DC after his work on Peacemaker.

After finding success in the superhero genre with Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn has also been delving into the DC universe in recent years to share his creative vision with a new set of heroes. Now having corrected many of David Ayer's wrongs with his own successful reboot/sequel, The Suicide Squad, as well as being head creator for the upcoming spin-off Peacemaker series for HBO Max, Gunn may just be the perfect fit to contiunue creating engaging DC stories.

In an interview with Collider, Gunn confirmed that he'll be continuing to collaborate with DC and that he is involved with an upcoming TV project. "You know, we're stepping forward. It keeps happening. We'll see what's happening, and I'll know what's happening very shortly. I dealt with it last night and this morning." When asked if it will be a film or series, Gunn responded, "“It's TV. There you go.” What Gunn did not confirm is if the upcoming series will be another spin-off of The Suicide Squad or not.

While Gunn could serve as a producer on the project, especially knowing of his enthusiasm for these characters and stories, it is very likely he will return to write and direct like he did on Peacemaker. Either way, though, fans will have to wait and see a bit longer, as Gunn is currently filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Plus, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is also due to be released on Disney Plus at the end of 2022, but it recently hit a production roadblock after the Omicron variant caused filming to be delayed.

As for Peacemaker, the series takes place before and after the events of The Suicide Squad and stars John Cena as the titular anti-hero. Audiences are thrown into the merciless killer's past while also following him on his next missions. The series currently has a 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and has received much praise for Cena's performance, Gunn's stylistic, over the top action, and humor. Gunn finished writing all of the Peacemaker episodes while working on The Suicide Squad and he will be directing five of the eight episodes.

Peacemaker also sees Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee reprise their roles as Emilia Harcourt and John Economos from The Suicide Squad. New additions include Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith (Peacemaker's father), Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante, and Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn.

Peacemaker releases new episodes every Thursday on HBO Max.
