The cooperative first-person shooter series Payday has been popular since it debuted in the early 2010s, though the gap between 2013's Payday 2 and a supposed Payday 3 in development for 2022 or 2023 has left fans in anxious anticipation. Luckily, Payday 2 is receiving DLC in the meantime, with its newest mission called "Breakfast in Tijuana" having released to the public on June 30.

About six years after it first released, Payday 2 re-entered development in October 2019 to create DLC in an ongoing series known as the Silk Road campaign. The newest chapter, Breakfast in Tijuana, features the heist crew having to break into a high-security police station in Tijuana, Mexico to rescue an old ally and friend who was captured during a previous heist in San Martin.

According to developer Overkill Software, this new heist to break Hajrudin out of prison can be approached with a variety of choices, including "stealth" and "loud" modes. The DLC for Payday 2 also includes the Fugitive Weapon Pack that offers three weapons and a dozen weapon mods, as well as 19 new camouflage patterns to apply to different weapons.

Though it is still unclear when the world can expect to see a Payday 3, it is nice to see the current game still receiving content for those who want to keep at it. Payday 2 originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so it will be interesting to see whether the next title is a standalone next-generation sequel or another port similar to Grand Theft Auto 5 releasing on PS5.

PayDay 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
