Despite claims that her parting with DC was acrimonious, Patty Jenkins has clarified that the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 was a mutual and respectful decision. Additionally, the director was backed up by co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn.Speculation was rampant when it was first announced that Wonder Woman 3 wouldn't be moving forward. Some wondered what happened behind closed doors, particularly because Gal Gadot had shared a message on Twitter saying she was excited for the next chapter of the character just the day before. It was later reported that Jenkins walked away from Wonder Woman 3 over studio notes. As the story went, the studio wasn't happy with the direction Jenkins wanted to go in for the next installment, causing Jenkins to storm off and later send the executives a link to the Wikipedia article on character arcs.RELATED: Wonder Woman 3 Not Moving Forward, Henry Cavill's Superman Return UncertainJenkins has now posted a rebuttal to this story on her Twitter. “This is simply not true,” the statement reads in part. “I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”

Gunn, who is now running DC's film division alongside Peter Safran, was also roped into the story. Reports that it was not Gunn who provided notes on Jenkin's story treatment but that he disapproved of the direction the film was heading in regardless. In response to Jenkins' tweet, Gunn wrote, "I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional."

Many have wondered what Wonder Woman 3's cancellation says about the new DCEU. When the story dropped about Jenkins, responses were mixed. Some praised DC for supposedly standing their ground on a film they didn't have faith in, while others sided with Jenkins. The internet, predictably, began dogpiling on various parties involved, so it's easy to see why Jenkins felt the need to make a statement.

Gunn clearing up the Wonder Woman 3 rumors is also helpful. Allegations about directors being difficult to work with have led to numerous filmmakers being blacklisted from the industry, and the story could have negatively impacted Jenkins' career. Even now that Jenkins and Gunn have commented on the Wonder Woman 3 story, some still claim it's the truth, even though they were not involved.
