Star Trek: Picard dropped a bombshell on fans: not only does Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) have a son (Ed Speleers), the child was born of a union between Picard and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). Now, Stewart spoke about what that means for the character.

Star Trek: Picard opted to reunite the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast. Decades after the end of that show, the former crewmates of the USS Enterprise must reunite to save the universe. Though the characters have gone their own way since the show ended, they're still connected in several ways: Picard's son with Dr. Crusher is a prime example.

In an interview with USA Today, Stewart revealed that Picard is quite furious with Dr. Crusher, whom he lost touch with for several decades. "When I learn that she is bringing up this child, who is now a young man, who is my son, it's enraging," Stewart said. "The fury that she would hide this fact from me. The scene was so powerful, it was one of the great highlights of shooting Picard."

Speleers, currently also starring in Netflix's You season 4, was also open about Jack Crusher's disappointment in his father. "It's like your dad being one of the most famous people in the world – a sports or Hollywood star – and knowing that person hasn't been in your life. But Jack is wanting to make his own mark and his own way," Speelers said. "It's about him trying to figure out who he really is, what his purpose in life is."

Picard is likely one of - if not the most - influential figures in the history of the Federation. It's not a mystery why there are complicated feelings on Jack's end: On one hand, Picard was unaware of his existence. On the other, Jack still doesn't want anything to do with Picard after finding out about him because he's more concerned with being his own man. If Star Trek: Picard season 3 is not its last, this could be quite an interesting arc.

It seems there are many more big moments ahead in the season. Geordi LaForge actor LeVar Burton reacted emotionally to the Picard season 3 pitch, reportedly crying at the season's finale and at a big moment his character will later have in the season. Fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the next installment of the season.

Star Trek: Picard is airing on Paramount plus.
