Some RPG games that use fantasy aesthetics include accessories like scrolls and magical items. Potions or variations of them in the form of elixirs, flasks, or whatever the designers thought was appropriate, are usually a way of restoring health. Other than that, however, they can also be used to replace magical spells, scrolls, inherent abilities, or even explosives.

In Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, potions are a natural addition to all the other items you pick up in the course of your travels. They can be used to restore health, of course, but they have a number of other uses as well.

If the adventuring party includes a character with the capacity to make potions, and there's an Alchemist's Kit in the Common Stash, some of these can be crafted during rest periods. In this particular setting, Alchemist's Kits are available in different levels, and they can only be used to craft potions of the same or lower level.

Various character builds can also include Skills and Feats that include a talent for Alchemy. There's even a whole class, the Alchemist, dedicated to crafting potions. Many potions have an equivalent spell, and the description of a potion tells the player which character knows it.

Updated on March 11, 2022, by Kristy Ambrose: The second installment in the video game category of the Pathfinder franchise, Wrath of the Righteous, has gone through some major changes since it was first released. That includes a new DLC, versions for the Xbox and PS4 consoles, and two major updates consisting of refining the existing game. That means there are a few more useful potions that can be added to the list.

12 Potion Of Delay Poison

Pathfinder Wrath of the righteous lich mythic path

This is a fairly simple level 2 potion that most players pick up early in the game without even noticing. A Potion of Delay Poison doesn't cure poison, so how useful is it?

The name of this potion is misleading. What this potion actually does is make the targeted character immune to the poison damage for the duration of the effect. It won't cure it but can be used to avoid the damage.

11 Alchemist's Fire

Pathfinder wrath of the righteous demon

This isn't something that characters should be drinking. In fact, it doesn't even have that option. It equips in the same slot as a scroll or potion as opposed to a weapon, but when the character uses it, they're given a targeting icon of where they want the area of effect to cover.

Make sure no friendly players are within range of this explosion, which can be tricky because it has a generous radius of 30 feet, and a direct hit deals 1d6 points of fire damage. Players will find Alchemist's Fire in a variety of places, such as Nurah's tent, which is a clue as to her true loyalties.

10 Potion Of Cat's Grace

This potion is a transmutation, so it makes the imbiber more agile and coordinated in general. Specifically, it adds a +4 enhancement bonus to Dexterity along with the usual benefits to AC, reflex saves, and dice rolls that rely on Dexterity.

It's handy if the party has a situation that requires some extra stealth or cunning and the Rogue in the party, or the one with Rogue-like talents, needs some extra skill to get a difficult task done. Everyone could use a Dexterity boost once in a while. Even the tank or the Barbarian, who aren't exactly known for subtlety, could benefit from some extra control in a tense fight.

9 Potion Of Shield Of Faith

pathfinder angel

This is a spell associated with healing classes like Paladins, Clerics, and Oracles, but any character or any class can use this potion. It doesn't work like a spell in the sense that the imbiber can use this spell on someone else. It only affects the character who drinks it.

A shimmering field of light surrounds the imbiber, and it's not just for show. It grants a +2 Deflection bonus to their armor class, with an additional +1 to that bonus for every six of their levels.

8 Potion Of Protection From Arrows

Path of Exile Ranger Ascendencies including Pathfinder.

To be more descriptive, this potion actually gives the imbiber an improved damage reduction to any ranged weapon, not just arrows. The resistance equals an additional 10 to a character's resistance to ranged damage and is magical in nature.

The information about the potion says that it lasts for an hour, so in theory, it can be used in a number of successive battles. However, once the potion shields the imbiber from more than 10 points of damage per their level, the effect is dispelled.

7 Potion Of Protection From Evil

When this spell appears in scroll or memorized form, the caster can choose what element on which to focus. With the potion, however, each element is specified, so you'll also come across potions that protect from frost, fire, acid, certain moral alignments, or other kinds of elemental or magical damage.

A Protection from Evil potion is of particular utility in Pathfinder: The Wrath of the Righteous because most of the game's antagonists are demons, undead, or their minions, and these groups are typical representatives of an Evil moral alignment.

6 Potion Of Invisibility

Pathfinder wrath of the righteous azata mythic path

An indispensable potion for a number of creative reasons, spell-casters usually have an Invisibility spell or an equivalent that they can use in a pinch. With a sip from this shiny blue liquid, not only does the character become invisible, they get a +20 bonus to their Stealth checks.

Ask Woljif or Nenio if you need the same effect without a potion. This is also a common Wizard's spell that characters generally learn at lower levels.

5 Potion Of Freedom Of Movement

Pathfinder Barbarian

The party has a number of options for crowd control that they can use, but it's important to remember the enemy has the same resources. Web, Grease, Paralysis, and Hold Person are just some pesky ways the enemy can literally put a stop to your advance.

Characters in the party might have this spell, but the terrain is an issue here, and if characters aren't within casting distance then a scroll or memorized spell won't help. All a character has to do is gulp down this potion to negate the effects of numerous area-of-effect spells that impede movement.

4 Potion Of Remove Curse

Pathfinder wrath of the righteous cleric wielding fiery mace

Blindness, Paralysis, and Confusion are just a few examples of the annoying Curses that the protagonist and their party members will have to deal with during the course of their adventures. Clerics and Paladins might have this spell handy, but in case they don't, a potion of Remove Curse works just as well.

Like the spell, this can also remove the curse from an object, allowing the imbiber to remove the curse from a piece of gear or jewelry as easily as another character. If the target of the effect is another character, the imbiber has to make a saving throw against the Difficulty Class (DC) of the curse they're trying to remove.

3 Potion Of Magic Fang, Greater

Pathfinder wrath of the righteous pig fight

This potion scales and is also available in Lesser and normal versions, but the Greater one gives a character a +1 for every four class levels to both natural weapons and unarmed strikes. This stacks up to five and applies to shield slams and bites along with fists and weapons.

Magic Fang is also available as a spell, but it is so situational that most casters don't prioritize it in their daily spell-scribing. This is why it's better to keep it in scroll or potion form.

2 Potion Of Inflict Moderate Wounds

Pathfinder Dhampir split image fighter sorcerer ranger wizard

This potion has other uses besides giving the imbiber the ability to Inflict Moderate Wounds as a touch action as if they were casting a spell of the same name. When characters of the Dhampir race use this potion, it acts as a health potion would, and restores some of their hit points. There are versions of this potion that scale the exact same way that health potions do.

Like the spell of the same name, this potion gives the imbiber the power to channel negative energy to another character within reach, dealing 2d8 points of damage +1 more point per class level, up to a maximum of 10.

1 Potion Of Restoration

There are a variety of Restoration spells, and they become more important at higher levels when the party has to fight monsters like vampires or ghosts that can drain levels and ability scores.

These kinds of de-buffs can severely hamper the party's abilities and make any fight, pick a lock, or Persuasion check that much more difficult. Make sure the party healers have at least a few of these memorized at all times, but in case their spell slots or empty or they're the ones in need of Restoration, use a Potion of Restoration to fill the gap.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
