The Swedish video game publisher Paradox Interactive has various video games under its belt, games like Empire of Sin, Stellaris, Pillars of Eternity, and more. The company has plans for the Shadowrun Trilogy to come to Nintendo Switch by next year, and the company still has plans for the rest of its game projects.

However, despite some of its success, Paradox Interactive has been in the middle of changing its strategy when it comes to video game development. On September 30, the company announced that it decided to cancel multiple unannounced video game projects. It states that this is part of the company's strategy to focus its resources toward more proven video game projects that will meet its financial requirements regarding "returns and risk."

The company didn't list the names of the unannounced video games or how many of the canceled games there were. According to the press release, the company has written down the value of the canceled game projects that will impact the Q3 2021 profit before tax. The post adds that Paradox Interactive also canceled various video games since the third quarter of 2020, along with the recent cancellations.

The post states Paradox Interactive has been focusing its game development and business activities toward the company's "core areas." Paradox Interactive's current CEO, Fredrik Wester, said the company was "born and raised in strategy and management games." He talked about how the company is passionate about making video games with longevity for players to enjoy for long periods of time. As a result, the company has been making sure game projects with the highest potential receive the resources they need in order to achieve "the best development possible."

Wester said that the company now has a "promising game pipeline" and he is looking forward to revealing the new games with players over the next few years. The post also reveals that Paradox Interactive currently has fifteen new video games in development, some of which are sequels to existing franchises and some are brand new games. Four of the games have already been announced as Victoria 3, the next-gen console port of Crusader Kings 3, Shadowrun Trilogy, and Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines 2.

There are also several DLCs currently in development, including the Royal Court expansion for Crusader Kings 3. The news of the game cancellations follows on the heels of Paradox Interactive's previous CEO Ebba Ljungerud officially stepping down earlier in September. Based on her official statement, Ljungerud stepped down due to differing views on the strategy that the company is using for game development going forward.
