Paper Mario is certainly no stranger to jokes. From puns to physical comedy, the games have it all, but maybe Paper Mario: The Origami King was a bit too forward with the humor behind this collectible item.

The first Paper Mario game came out twenty years ago. While, no, original Nintendo games were not necessarily marketed towards kids, the Japanese developer has done a bang-up job making its content enjoyable for the adults who have been aging with their games. This includes some more adult humor, including what appears to be an inappropriate easter egg that fans have found in Paper Mario: The Origami King.

In-game, when players broach a tower in the Scorching Sandpaper Desert, they probably won't notice anything too strange. Not yet, anyway. It looks pretty innocent standing upright in the distance. But once Mario receives the Desert Tower collectible item, that's where things take a turn for the strange.

Check out the Desert Tower trophy in the collectibles menu. "Perhaps this is just a coincidence?" Some players might naively think to themselves. But take a look at the entry number: 69. The designers definitely intended for their raunchy discovery to be seen by fans. Turn the little tower over on its side; with the rounded head, tiny feet poking out the bottom, and the item's description in the bottom right corner that reads "Said to be modeled after a legendary king!"

"Well, I've already locked you in jail. There isn't actually much worse I can do without raising this game's age rating." Snifit says back in the Color Splash installment of the Paper Mario series; it's certainly veteran to NSFW jokes, but the Desert Tower is definitely the most blatant one.

The Origami King just released today and has already been seeing highly favorable reviews. While many were originally concerned that the strategic combat style and lack of experience points may take the series further from RPG territory, gamers are currently loving the newest installment in the two-decade-old series.

Paper Mario: The Origami King is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
