PandaTV is a popular Australian Twitch streamer who rose to fame on the site with his lengthy World of Warcraft live broadcasts. With 171 thousand Twitch followers and an impressive record for the longest “stream-athon” yet done on the site at a mind-boggling 840-hour broadcast, PandaTV is becoming increasingly well-known in the Twitch world.
With Twitch and live-streaming becoming such an highly competitive field, aspiring stars are doing everything they can on the site to stand out from the crowd. From hilarious method-acting like the iconic Dr Disrespect to marathon streams lasting dozens or even hundreds of hours, Twitch streamers like PandaTV are steadily raising the bar in regards to producing content on the platform, sometimes even neglecting their own health in the process.
On September 10th, PandaTV was attempting a 24-hour live stream for the Australian non-profit suicide prevention organization RUOK. Around hour 13 of the ambitious endeavor, PandaTV stated that he was starting to feel off, citing increasing pain in his knee and arm. Rather than risk the discomfort getting worse, he decided to end the stream prematurely and go to the hospital.
Later that day, PandaTV posted several updates from the hospital to his Twitter account. While initially suspecting blood clots, doctors have been unable to pinpoint the problem despite running several tests. It is unknown at this time if the marathon stream contributed to PandaTV’s condition. He is now out of critical care but still has not posted further updates regarding what caused the episode. Adoring fans and other streamers like the popular World of Warcraft player Asmongold has been voicing their support to PandaTV’s Twitter page, wishing him a quick recovery.
Amazon’s Twitch platform has seen plenty of unfavorable news as of late, with famous star streamers like DrLupo and TimTheTatman leaving the site for YouTube. On top of that, Twitch has been struggling with “Hate Raids,” an event in which live streams are bombarded with continuous toxic messages produced by bots. This caused many Twitch creators to boycott the site on September 1 to protest Twitch’s treatment of its content producers on its platform.
PandaTV isn’t the only Twitch streamer to leave the site due to health issues either; popular variety streamer Pokimane recently took a lengthy break from Twitch broadcasts on the site, citing severe burnout. Fans can only hope that creators and streamers like her and PandaTV are able to stay healthy and continue to entertain their communities.
