The original Pac-Man World introduced the iconic gaming character into the realm of 3D on the original PlayStation, and the new remake aims to recapture the feel of the original game with all-new graphics. Bandai Namco released a new trailer for Pac-Man World: Re-Pac, highlighting the remake's appearance compared to the classic PlayStation game.

Pac-Man World first released on October 15, 1999, for the original PlayStation. The game celebrated the franchise's 20th anniversary at the time and saw Pac-Man set off on an 3D adventure. The game begins with ghosts ruining Pac-Man's 20th birthday and kidnapping his friends and family. As a result, Pac-Man must traverse six distinct worlds to rescue his loved ones and defeat the ghosts of Ghost Island. Over 20 years later, Pac-Man World: Re-Pac reintroduces the tale across modern consoles and PC for new players to explore.

The latest trailer for Pac-Man World: Re-Pac compares the first two areas of the original Pac-Man World with the new, updated versions. Gameplay mechanics are fine-tuned and faithful to the original, but the visuals were completely upgraded in a similar manner to Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy. Additionally, the trailer shows that the game's original soundtrack remains intact for the new release. However, some characters such as Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Baby were redesigned and renamed due to ongoing rights issues with AtGames. These character redesigns were seen in the release of Pac-Man Museum+ as well.

Pac-Man World: Re-Pac features three modes to play: Quest Mode, Maze Mode, and Classic Mode. Quest Mode includes the main scenario of Pac-Man World: Re-Pac as Pac-Man embarks on his journey to save everyone from the ghosts. Maze Mode is a collection of 3D mazes for players to traverse and complete. After completing Quest Mode, the classic Pac-Man game from 1980 is unlocked in Classic Mode.

The new Pac-Man World: Re-Pac trailer reassures an authentic Pac-Man World experience for fans of the original game. The modernized remake allows new players to jump right in as Pac-Man with vivid graphics befitting of games in the present day. Furthermore, the new release broadens the reach of the Pac-Man World franchise, allowing Xbox and PC players to try out the game for the first time. The legacy of Pac-Man continues in the series' 42nd year with the release of Pac-Man World: Re-Pac.

On the other hand, some may have high expectations going forward for Bandai Namco and Pac-Man. If successful, Pac-Man World: Re-Pac could raise fan demand for more Pac-Man World remakes across all major platforms. Bandai Namco should consider these expectations and capitalize on the Pac-Man World series while it's fresh on the minds of players.

Pac-Man World: Re-Pac releases August 26 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
