Less than a day remains before Christmas is here and the celebrations can get fully underway, but that’s still plenty of time for Overwatch fans to ring in the holiday in style, thanks to Blizzard. In keeping with what’s apparently a holiday tradition now, today is the day fans can tune in to watch the latest annual Overwatch Yule Log starring the game’s director, Jeff Kaplan.

For the next several hours, player can treat themselves to the sight of Kaplan sitting in a nice big chair before a roasting fire all day while surrounded by a number of Overwatch-themed Christmas decorations. It’s not clear how long this will last, but fans can find out by keeping an eye on the Yule Log livestream over on the official Overwatch Twitch channel.

Today marks the third year Blizzard has done an Overwatch-themed Yule Log livestream like this, stitching together shots of Kaplan sitting and not doing much of anything to make it look like he just staring at the camera for hours on end. Just like the last two Yule Logs, there’s bound to be the occasional moment where Kaplan breaks his silence for the sake of a quick gag, as well as potential surprise guest appearances. As silly as it all is, it has given Kaplan, the person on the Overwatch team most visible to fans, a chance to engage with fans and highlight the people and jokes that have grown popular within the community.

And who knows? This might be the last time fans can take part in this humorous tradition before Overwatch 2 arrives. While it looks like Overwatch 2 won’t be out until 2021, there’s still a chance it could be out by this time next year, so it’s possible that this Yule Log stream, the first since the game’s announcement, will boast a tease or two before the stream wraps up. We’ll just have to see what Kaplan has to offer beyond his sitting posture.

The Yule Log stream is just one of the ways that Blizzard has branched out Overwatch beyond the game itself. As fans know, there have been comics, animated short films, and shorts stories aplenty to flesh out the game’s cast and lore. Recently, Kaplan discussed how he’d like to go even further, stating that he dreams of making an Overwatch movie and animated series, as well as different types of Overwatch games.

Overwatch is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
