Overwatch's annual Lunar New Year event is in full swing, giving fans of Blizzard's hero-shooter the chance to unlock specially-themed cosmetics between now and February 5. Arguably the most sought-after new skin in the Overwatch Year of the Rat event is the Face Changer Sombra skin, and as it turns out, the popular skin has an extra detail that some fans may not have noticed at first.

For the uninitiated, the Face Changer Sombra skin in Overwatch is a skin that cycles through different faces for Damage character Sombra. Since Overwatch is primarily a first-person game, this means that those playing as Sombra don't really get to enjoy the Face Changer Sombra skin's gimmick. However, Blizzard has also made a change to Sombra's gun so that it has an icon of her face. This icon changes as her face does, letting fans know exactly which face is appearing on their Sombra at any given time.

This is a nice little touch that really makes the Face Changer Sombra skin stand out from the various other Year of the Rat skins. So far, most of the new skins have been well-received by the community, though anyone disappointed can always use their saved-up coins to purchase cosmetics from previous years.

It's possible that the Face Changer Sombra Skin may be a sign that Blizzard will be releasing more complex skins in future Overwatch events. These skins would have extra details that may make them more appealing to players than standard skins, so they may very well convince some fans to drop money on loot boxes and the like.

Others will want to save their cash for the upcoming Overwatch 2, which is rumored to be launching later this year. Multiple leaks have pointed to an Overwatch 2 release date of 2020, though Blizzard has yet to make any official announcements. When Overwatch 2 does come out, one has to imagine that it will be accompanied by a bunch of new cosmetics for players to earn.

Overwatch 2 will be sharing its PvP with the first Overwatch, so it will likely feature the same seasonal events as the original game as well. This means that fans that miss out on the Face Changer Sombra skin this year should have another chance to get it during next year's event.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
