Overwatch: New Widowmaker Halloween Skin Has Interesting Detail

Overwatch is in the midst of its Halloween Terror 2019 event, and that means players have new Halloween-themed skins to unlock in the game. This includes a brand new Halloween skin for Widowmaker called Scorpion Widowmaker, and fans have discovered that the skin is a bit more detailed than initially believed.

Overwatch player and Reddit user bs000 has pointed out that the Scorpion Widowmaker skin adds an extra touch to the sniper's Venom Mine gadget. When players shoot out a Venom Mine with the Scorpion Widowmaker skin and then zoom in on it, they will see that it has a scorpion tail on it. This detail, while small, does make the Scorpion Widowmaker skin a bit more interesting than it would be otherwise.

Adding a scorpion tail to Widowmaker's Venom Mine with her new Halloween skin is a cute touch, but quirks with some of the other Overwatch Halloween skins haven't been met quite as positively. The Ashe Halloween skin, for example, has been criticized online to the point that Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan himself made a Reddit post explaining how the skin would be fixed.

For the uninitiated, the Ashe Halloween skin in Overwatch has come under fire for its extra-bright scope. This limits players' visibility when playing with Ashe, meaning that anyone with the Warlock Ashe skin is at a disadvantage compared to other Ashe players. This effectively makes the Warlock Ashe skin a liability, and so those who bought a bunch of loot boxes to unlock it are understandably not happy.

Luckily, a fix for the Warlock Ashe skin is on the way. Blizzard will be removing the over-bright effect of the scope, which should go a long way in increasing visibility for Ashe players. Blizzard hasn't had to make any similar to changes for the other Overwatch Halloween skins, so those who play other characters, like Widowmaker for instance, shouldn't have to worry about anything like that.

Even with an expected Overwatch 2 announcement coming at BlizzCon 2019, fans of Overwatch can expect Blizzard to keep adding new skins to the popular hero-shooter. The Winter Wonderland event that will likely go live in December will be the next time new skins are added to the game, assuming Blizzard doesn't have any surprises up its sleeve between now and then.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
