The latest hero added to the Overwatch roster was the healer Baptiste, who recently had his backstory expanded on in a short story called "What You Left Behind." Those who want to read "What You Left Behind" can click here, especially if they want to know more not only about Baptiste, but potentially the unannounced Hero 31, who is rumored to be a tank-class hero.

Fans have speculated that the "What You Left Behind" Baptiste short story features Overwatch's next playable hero, a Talon tank named Mauga. In the story, Mauga is Baptiste's partner, and his abilities are thoroughly detailed, which is largely why people have started to predict that Mauga is the next playable hero in Overwatch.

According to the "What You Left Behind" Baptiste short story, Mauga dual-wields machineguns and is equipped with a shield and armor not unlike what Reinhardt wears. Blizzard also went through the trouble of giving Mauga a very distinct appearance in the illustrations that accompany the short story, which includes tattoos, and a unique white streak through his hair.

If Mauga is in fact the next playable hero in Overwatch, it seems likely that fans will learn more about him within the next few months. Legitimate sources have pointed to Overwatch 2 being announced at BlizzCon 2019, and it seems likely that Blizzard would want to reveal Overwatch's next hero before announcing the sequel. So a proper reveal for Mauga, or whoever the next hero is, should come sometime between now and November.

Of course, it's possible that the next Overwatch hero is not Mauga, but rather someone else entirely. That being said, it seems likely that the next hero is a tank class character. After all, the bulk of the roster is made up of the damage class, and the last new character added to the game was a healer. Before Baptiste, damage character Ashe was added to Overwatch.

The last new tank hero added to Overwatch was Hammond, aka Wrecking Ball, who was added to the game almost a year ago now. Overwatch fans are long overdue for a new tank hero, and so here's hoping Blizzard reveals the next character sooner rather than later.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
