Blizzard left a cryptic post on the Overwatch Twitter account this week that may be hinting at another Uprising event, as well as an all-new character.

The post contains a declassified report for mission "WHITE DOME", which took place near Istanbul, Turkey during the Omnic Crisis, a pivotal period in Overwatch lore. According to the report, a strike team led by Captain Ana Amari was ambushed by a group of Omnics and they barely escaped with their lives.

This could be indicating the return of the Uprising event that took place last Spring. During the event, players went back to the past, to another important moment during the Omnic Crisis. There, they took control of either Reinhardt, Torbjörn, or Mercy, as they were before the fall of Overwatch. Players could also choose Tracer, who at that time was the organization's newest recruit. Together, the four undertook a mission to stop an Omnic uprising on King's Row.

Both missions involve an Overwatch team undergoing a mission during the Omnic Crisis, which seems like more than just a coincidence. What's more, when the first Uprising was teased, it was also done using a declassified mission report posted to Twitter. Given the similarities, many believe Blizzard is gearing up to bring back Uprising, but have players experience a different moment in history.

Overwatch's King's Row Uprising Ends Early

As for whose shoes players will get to step into this time around, the new mission report names four characters that are likely candidates. Both Reinhardt and Torbjörn return as members of the strike team, with Ana leading and replacing Mercy. The fourth member is Private First Class Emre Sarioglu, whose name doesn't belong to any known characters in the Overwatch universe. This has led to theories that a new playable hero may be introduced for the event.

To add more fuel to the fire, just a few days ago Blizzard posted a job listing for a creative writer to join the Overwatch team, whose responsibilities would include contributing to the game's lore. Given Uprising's focus on lore, this could mean Blizzard is currently recruiting for development on the event, should it actually be returning.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
