Overwatch recently celebrated its second anniversary, and is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, game director Jeff Kaplan has released a new developer update that that details what the future holds for the game - including a major Symmetra rework.

Overwatch hasn't tried to keep the Symmetra rework a secret, but now we know it's coming in the next patch (and is already available in the PTR). This update gives Symmetra a map-spanning shield as a new Ultimate ability, allows her to throw her turrets, and gives her regular access to a teleporter. Furthermore, it moves her from the Support class to the Damage class.

Some fans may be wondering what the "Damage" class is, as Overwatch's classes have traditionally consisted of Offense, Defense, Tank, and Support. However, that's going to change soon, as the Offense and Defense classes are being combined into the Damage class - a change that will presumably go live in the main game alongside the Symmetra rework.

The Symmetra rework isn't the only change coming to Overwatch in the near future. As previously leaked, the Horizon Lunar Colony map is also getting some big changes that will not only make it a better balanced map, but will also add new art and lore. Speculation points to this new lore revealing more about Winston's backstory, or perhaps teasing the game's next playable hero.

While many fans may be mostly interested in the changes coming to Symmetra and Horizon Lunar Colony, the bulk of the developer update actually focuses on new social features that are making their way to Overwatch. These social features will include endorsements, which allow players to "endorse" other people they play with online in three different categories. The categories are Sportsmanship, Good Teammate, and Shot Caller, with players able to give Sportsmanship endorsements to opponents as well as their own teammates.

Overwatch players who take the time to give out endorsements will be given rewards. Those who have high endorsement levels will also be rewarded, though Kaplan stopped short of providing specifics as to what kind of rewards players can expect.

The endorsement feature is coming to Overwatch soon, as is the in-game looking for group feature, which should help players find others that complement their playstyle. The Overwatch team has even more social systems in development, including a "big feature" that is expected to launch late this summer or early fall, so fans should stay tuned for more information.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
