Overwatch Switch Port Release Date Leaked

overwatch 5 weird facts about widowmaker

Last month, an Overwatch-themed Switch case appeared on Amazon, which was a bit strange as Overwatch is currently not available for the Switch. Since then, rumors have been swirling that an Overwatch Switch port announcement was imminent, with many believing that the game would be announced during today's Nintendo Direct presentation. Thanks to retail leaks, we now know that the Overwatch Switch port is real, and we even know its release date.

A European retailer has the Overwatch Switch port listed for an October 18 launch. Kotaku's Jason Schreier has since verified this information, though he believes that the Overwatch Switch port will launch on October 15 in North America. Regardless, we can expect more information on the Overwatch Switch port later today when the Nintendo Direct presentation goes live at 3pm PT.

The announcement of an Overwatch Switch port was undoubtedly one of the bigger surprises that Nintendo had planned for its September 4 Nintendo Direct presentation, but that doesn't mean there won't be other surprises in store. We know that the presentation will focus on 2019 games, though, so fans shouldn't expect to see more of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 or any games that are planned for 2020.

Nintendo has so far confirmed two of the games that it will feature in today's Nintendo Direct presentation. Players can look forward to more information on Pokemon Sword and Shield, as well as Luigi's Mansion 3. Since the September 4 Nintendo Direct is set to be 40 minutes long, fans can expect even more games to be showcased during the presentation.

In the meantime, it remains to be seen exactly how Overwatch will be supported on the Nintendo Switch. Hopefully the Switch version of Overwatch receives updates at the same rate as the other versions of the game, but that remains to be seen. Something else unclear at this point is if Overwatch on the Switch will have cross-save compatibility or if players will be starting from scratch with the game. Answers should come later today when the Nintendo Direct presentation goes live at 3:00pm PT.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch port coming in October.
