The day of reveal is finally here as Blizzard releases a new animated short, revealing that Sombra will be coming to Overwatch's Public Test Realm next week.

BlizzCon 2016 is off to a fantastic start as the convention's opening ceremony showed off something that every Overwatch fan has been waiting for: Sombra.

A new short named "Infiltration," which features Sombra working alongside Reaper and Widowmaker to assassinate a target of great importance, was revealed as the hacker hero interrupted a look back at Overwatch's beginnings, live on stream. The short shows Sombra hacking her way into Volskaya Industries' security systems, both from up close and afar. The mission doesn't go exactly according to plan, however, but it seems that the new character had some secret objectives of her own.

Talking about Sombra on stage, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime revealed that the character would be a Stealth/Offensive hero, who is able to turn the tide of battle in a range of subtle and not-so-subtle ways. She is also able to hack the abilities of other heroes, something that is sure to come in handy in Overwatch's competitive play. Sombra is available to play at BlizzCon right now, and will be coming alongside other new features next week to the Overwatch PTR.

Details will soon be revealed from BlizzCon as to what Sombra's exact abilities are, but the short gives a brief look at the character before gameplay is released. It seems that Sombra is unmatched in the Overwatch roster for stealth, as she has both access to invisibility and a short-range teleport which can be placed in a location of her choice. The character wields a SMG and is also capable of hacking robotics via short beams that fire from her fingertips, as shown in the recent leaked artwork.

Morhaime also announced that more maps will be coming to the game in the near future. Oasis - a high tech city that was terraformed in the Arabian desert, will be one of them. Another new map, Eco-Point Antarctica, will be playable from next week on the PTR, alongside Sombra. This cold and snowy map is the site where Mei was frozen in cryostasis before the events of present-day Overwatch.

Eco-Point Antarctica has been specially designed for a brand new mode called Arcade, which aims to introduce a range of new ways to play to the game. Not much has been officially revealed just yet, but we do know that 1v1 and 3v3 battles are just some of the new functions that the Arcade will host when it comes to the game next week.

Stay tuned for more Overwatch details as they come from BlizzCon 2016.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
