The Sojourn excitement carries over into another consecutive day of Overwatch 2 content leading up to the release of the Overwatch 2 Beta. A new developer update video was released today in a slightly different fashion. Two Overwatch 2 developers shared a new video that featured damage hero Sojourn's gameplay, her abilities, and what she will mean for the next installment of the franchise.

Overwatch 2 Lead Hero Designer Geoff Goodman and Narrative Designer Miranda Moyer recently discussed what was going on at Blizzard and the Overwatch team regarding the process of developing Sojourn. In addition, they talked about the abilities they chose for her as well as her story that will shape Overwatch 2, which they claim will push the story of Overwatch forward.

Sojourn's Railgun is discussed as the core of her design and expands from there. As seen in previous short clips, Sojourn's agility is just as significant to her kit, with her enhanced cybernetics that can make her a threat on the battlefield. Her power slides make her a slippery target, and she can chain the slide into a high jump to get to higher ground or catch opponents off guard with the quick change in altitude. Her crowd control ability Disruptor Shot slows enemies caught in an area, which can set up those trapped for a powerful follow-up with her Secondary Fire.

The developers offer a bit of interesting insight into the process Team 4 took to land on Sojourn's Ultimate. Geoff Goodman said an option existed where Soujoun's Ultimate, "Overclock," was just one giant laser that penetrates through the map much like Hanzo's Dragon Strike. But the team opted for more direct, limited-time power shots, likely to the delight of many Overwatch players.

Sojourn's abilities

Moyer added her own excitement for Sojourn's arrival into the broader Overwatch lineup. The voice lines between former Overwatch team members, neutral entities, as well as Talon operatives are bound to create interesting interactions in the game. A lore video is also in the works, with the developers giving fans the slightest tease of Sojourn in the cutscene. It only offers a glimpse of early footage, with Sojourn walking up some stairs to her home in Toronto where she retired after leaving Overwatch. Though there was no word of when this cinematic will be released, fans will likely be excited about a new lore video; the last formative lore video was the Zero Hour cinematic more than 2 years ago.

This developer update marks the latest step in the road to the Overwatch 2 Beta and the formal introduction of Sojourn to the game. With the Overwatch 2 Beta weeks away, the community is now teeming with excitement. It's been a long road towards getting Sojourn and Overwatch 2 into players' hands, even if it's just the PC Beta. With that, and the Overwatch League's 5th season starting in May, Overwatch 2's launch feels near even without an official release date.

Overwatch 2 is in development.
