Last week, Overwatch started teasing the introduction of its next playable character, currently known as Hero 31. Since then, there was a possible leak that revealed Hero 31 to be Sigma, largely believed to be a tank-class hero. Official teases for Sigma have come since the leak, and it's based on these teases that fans of the game have started theorizing what Sigma's abilities will be.

Reddit user hossein1376 made a post about how the Sigma teaser trailer shows Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan being pulled into what appears to be a black hole. The theory is that the black hole will either be featured as Sigma's Ultimate ability or play a role in his other abilities. If so, fans think that the black hole will slow down opponents, as "time passes much slower near black holes" in real life.

Other Reddit users then chimed in to offer more evidence that Sigma's abilities could be based on time manipulation, specifically slowing down time. It was pointed out by Reddit user mrcayy that healer character Lucio was originally going to have an Ultimate ability where he slowed down time, but that was ultimately changed before release. It's also pointed out that Kaplan is wearing a Lucio shirt in the Sigma teaser trailer, which could be another clue in support of his theory.

Reddit user TheOverBio mentioned that the latest patch notes for the PTR mention "Slowing Effects." Slowing Effects are already in the game to some extent, like at the end of a match and whenever someone is caught in Mei's Ultimate ability, but it appears as though the Overwatch team is working to improve them for some reason. If Sigma's Ultimate does involve a black hole that can slow down time, it would make more sense why Blizzard would be working on the game's Slowing Effects.

Luckily, we shouldn't have to wait too much longer to find out about Sigma's abilities in Overwatch in an official capacity. Jeff Kaplan teased that there will be some big news for Overwatch this week, which could include a proper reveal for Sigma.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
