The Uprising event is returning to Overwatch, and many early teases suggested it was somewhat more of the same, albeit with a new name, Archives. While it's true that the original Uprising story mission will return, there will be another, completely new story mission as well, starring select members of the notorious Blackwatch.

A couple days ago, Blizzard released a developer update that lightly detailed the Archives event and teased some new content. Shortly after, a web comic was released that revealed a specific event in Overwatch's past, where a surprise attack from Talon left one of its members in critical condition. The response to this act of violence was to dispatch Blackwatch to covertly infiltrate a Talon safe house in Venice to seek retribution -- which just so happens to be the name of the new mission.

In Retribution, players will once again be taken back in time, where they can choose between Genji, Reaper, McCree, or newcomer Moira, to play out a mission that appears to go horribly south, leaving the members to desperately find a way to make it to an extraction point alive. They'll face hordes of Talon soldiers, as well as a mysterious assassin that is heavily implied to be Widowmaker in a flashy new costume that players will be dying to make their own, whether they main the sniper or not. Check out the full trailer below.

As mentioned before, the original Uprising story mission will also be available during the Overwatch event. This has players take on the role of either Reinhardt, Torbjorn, Mercy, or Tracer, as they fight through a seemingly endless army of Omnics during a pivotal moment in Overwatch's past. There is also a separate version called All-Heroes mode that allows players to play as any hero available in the game. Look for the Overwatch Archives event next week, starting April 10, and running until April 30.

In other news, Overwatch lead designer and vice president of Blizzard, Jeff Kaplan, discussed his thoughts on a Battle Royale mode and how it would work in the game. For the most part, it doesn't, which kind of goes without saying, considering the way Overwatch is designed. However, it's interesting to hear Kaplan's thoughts on the matter, and he gives some interesting insight into the challenges a Battle Royale mode would pose.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
