It's been up for debate for a few days now, but Blizzard has finally confirmed the newest character to join Overwatch through an origin story trailer that released today, featuring Brigitte.

Sorry, Jetpack Cat fans, it appears that Brigitte will be taking the spot on the Overwatch roster as the 27th playable hero. Blizzard delivered the news through an origin story trailer that details Brigitte's journey from engineer to protector.

For those who don't know, Brigitte is Torbjörn's daughter and, like her father, she is also an engineer. She has steadily grained a larger presence in Overwatch lore recently, starting with an appearance in the Reinhardt animated short "Honor and Glory". Brigitte got a little more backstory when a letter from her father to her mother was released a few days ago; one of numerous teases released this week.

As her story goes, Brigitte is fed with being on the sidelines and repairing the damage inflicted on her allies and friends, so she's taking up arms and joining the fight. She'll be equipped with a shield, which looks to be a smaller version of the one Reinhardt carries, and a mace. Both of these items were recently teased through pieces of art posted to the Overwatch Twitter recently.

It isn't clear how these items will function, though it's assumed Brigitte's shield will work somewhat like Reinhardt's, absorbing damage for her allies. Her mace, however, is still likely hiding secrets. As for abilities, the video doesn't touch on how Brigitte will play or her role in an Overwatch group, but many assume she will be a support tank. The release of her origin trailer means audiences will find out the answers to these questions soon.

Based on how new characters have been revealed in the past, more videos should drop shortly, whether that be later today or in the very near future. Stay tuned to Game Rant for more on Brigitte as her journey to playable hero develops.

Overwatch is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
