Overwatch fans may usually show their love for the game through fan art and cosplay, though one players has had a different idea. Posting a video to Reddit that compiles several clips, an Overwatch fan named Basisfly did a perfect job parodying McCree’s highlight intros.

One of many ways Overwatch players can express themselves, highlight intros only play for the person that has their play of the game shown at the end of the match. Considering that McCree’s reload emote is one of the coolest in the game, it makes sense that he would have some neat highlight intros as well. While he now has several available to choose from, his original intros likely remain the most memorable amongst fans. As such, Basisfly picked these three videos to make spoofs of, with the clips getting funnier as the upload progresses.

Basisfly jokes that the video is simply showing off some “ultra-realism graphics” from the upcoming sequel Overwatch 2, with this so-called visual upgrade shown right away in the first clip. After showing the original intro, which focuses on McCree’s holstering his gun, flashing his belt, and tipping his hat, the Redditor shows their version. After putting a nerf gun in their pocket, a silly clip-on “BAMF” belt buckle can be seen. The fan can be seen using a coat as McCree’s poncho, with the hat tip looking hilarious as the fan slowly glances down.

The McCree fan then parodies the intro where McCree draws his gun and turns behind him, with the tumbleweed mimicked by someone throwing a basketball off-camera. Looking intentionally poorly done, as hands appear from the side and a random noise plays, things only get funnier when the person dressed as McCree turns back toward the camera. With a cigarette in his mouth, the fan makes a goofy face, and the Overwatch theme begins to blast as the camera zooms in on him.

The final video sees the player trying to copy McCree’s combat roll intro. Unsurprisingly, this goes poorly, as they fan the hammer only to stumble backwards and fall down. This ending proved to be a particularly big hit with fans, as gamers like soneky say that they would like to see the spoof intro become a real one eventually. While this is unlikely, as it makes McCree look more clumsy than heroic, it would be a nice nod to this strange creation. Regardless, the Overwatch community has clearly responded well to Basisfly’s post, as it boasts a staggering 13,000 upvotes alongside numerous awards.

For those interested in seeing what McCree will actually look like in Overwatch 2, Blizzard has released McCree’s updated character design. With his outfit adjusted alongside a fresh haircut and beard, he looks a fair bit different from the version that is seen in these custom intros.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
