One of the highlights of Blizzcon 2018 was the reveal of the new Damage hero Ashe in Overwatch. Ashe was added to the PTR not long after her announcement, and now she is available in the hero-based shooter across all platforms as of the game's latest update.
The latest update for Overwatch is available to download now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and it's headlined by Ashe's introduction to the game proper. Overwatch enthusiasts will have two weeks to test Ashe out in various game modes before she will become available in Competitive Play, though Blizzard stopped short of revealing an exact date she will be playable in Comp.
Besides adding Ashe to Overwatch's ever-growing roster of playable heroes, the new update also makes major changes to characters that are already in the game. Mercy, Reaper, Roadhog, and Symmetra are all getting buffs, with Roadhog's arguably the most significant. Roadhog's hook will now be more efficient, greatly reducing his opponent's momentum when they've been hooked, and both his Scrap Gun and his Whole Hog ultimate are deadlier as well.
While the addition of Ashe and the changes to certain heroes are definitely the most important bits in the new update, other changes have also been made to Overwatch. Jump height is now universal across every character in the game, and Blizzard also addressed a number of lingering bugs and other issues.
Much has been made about the latest Overwatch update, as it essentially requires players to reinstall the entire game. Blizzard has gone as far as to refer to this large update as a "remaster" of Overwatch thanks to the changes being made, and the foundation being set for future updates to the game.
Looking ahead, the next big update should come at some point in December. It's then that Overwatch will likely kick off its annual Winter Wonderland event, which will include new skins, exclusive game modes, and more.
Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
